Cingular is buying out AT&T Wireless... Everyone knows that... but somehow Cingular's customers get less service, less reception and basically less coverage than AT&T Wireless' customers do... DON'T EVER SWITCH TO CINGULAR IF YOU HAVE AT&T WIRELESS!!! Moreover, I will tell you why. First, you get more minutes for the same price (900 against 850 for instance). Second, you get better reception (proved many times already). Third thing is - you are actually able to use both networks free of charge, and it is up to you whether to choose AT&T's network or Cingular's (most AT&T's customers are able to switch to Cingular's network), so you get 2 networks for the price of one.
Any benefits of Cingular??? Would be glad to hear...

First of all Cingular is not buying out AT&T.
It is a done deal, Cingular has bought AT&T.
And here 2 features that are available on Cingular that are not, as far as I know, available on AT&T
1. Rollover minutes.
2. Fast Forward
And with a GAIT phone on the Cingular network you get the most complete coverage available from any carrier, BOTH GSM and TDMA.

Rollover minutes are only valuable if you don't use all your minutes.
I use all my minutes per month with AT&T, so rollover doesn't come in to play.
Plus. I currently have a Regional Family plan with AT&T, and I pay $59.99 for 1150 anytime minutes, plus FREE Mobile to Mobile, and the additional phone line is $9.99. If I switch to Cingular, I pay $59.99 for 1000 anytime minutes, plus $9.99 for Mobile to Mobile, and $19.99 for the additional line. In summary, I get 100 fewer minutes each month, but I have to pay an additional $30 per month.
Somehow I don't see Cingular improving their rate plans and we AT&T people are going to be screwed when we are forced to switch to Cingular rate plans.

GAIT plans cost twice as much!!! (I’m not sure because those plans are not available in MI ), second of all I don't think Cingular's got plans with unlimited-after-7 calling... and a few more complains about Cingular (I respect that Cingular was the second largest and now it's becoming the first largest company in US), but my friend is a customer of Cingular's and every time I call him, I just can't clearly hear him... dude! and I got AT&T and I can manually switch to Cingular, and if I do that I'll get more reception bars than he does...... so decide for yourself!!! Yeah, almost forgot, with AT&T you get free incoming messages, so I can receive news, weather, showtimes, etc. for free!!!
Hopefully, we are not going to be forced to switch to Cingular in the near future...

better reception where?! don't you know...it depends where you are? go to NYC and tell me you have great reception there. if ATT has great reception everwhere, then why were there so many compaints for ATT service? for me, i don't get less service or reception and i too can change between networks (plut T-mobile) so thats not an ATT only benefit. Cingular has always had better coverage than ATT in the US since they had roaming agreements with TMobile, it's a benefit to you that they merged. so seriously, what are you complaining about? they are the same company now.

Since there is no "GAIT only" plans available anymore Cingular allows users of GAIT phones to use them on the GSM plans but also supports the TDMA function without ANY additional cost.
I have a GAIT phone on the $39.99 1,000 minute plan and I am very happy with the coverage and price.
You may use a GAIT phone on any Cingular plan.
It is my understanding that AT&T customers will be "grandfathered" on their current plans and will not "be forced" to switch to Cingular until the want to change plans. Even at that point you will not "be forced" to change to Cingular as there are many other carriers available.
AT&T sold out to Cingular, why blame Cingular for buying them?
If AT&T was such a good company why was it up for sale?

What's better Cingular or AT&T wireless....
Cingular because there is no more AT&T wireless.
I can only assume that AT&T was better for you, i.e. it fit your needs and wants better than Cingular and that is why you were a customer of AT&T instead of T-mobile, Verizon, Cingular etc.
I travel seven states, by car, and have tested the "Big 3" several times over the years and IN MY CASE Cingular has proved to provide me with a usable signal in more places than the others.
It is easy to get coverage in the Metro areas, try it in Vermont and Northern Maine.
A GAIT phone on the Cingular network provides the most coverage available from any provider.
You won't be able to take a picture or a lot of other things but you will be able to make and receive calls.
So which is the best?
If what you want your phone to do is be able to place a call, when needed, Cingular is best.
It depends what you want to do!
All I want to do is place a call.

DUDE! YOU CAN'T TELL ME SHIT! I've traveled all the way from Indiana to the north of NY State. I had the service all the way till Buffalo, then there was no service, but in Lake Placid there was!!! And the only two companies were there - Verizon's roaming area and USA030. Fortunately USA030 works in GSM, so I was able to roam... Unfortunately my friend who's got cingular's phone (not sure if that was GAIT or GSM or TDMA or whatever) who didn't have any service along with T-Mobile (my brother's). Maybe you are right, AT&T Wireless just fit my needs, but dude, I just don't get how people cannot get signal or dropped calls with this great company. Maybe they just don't know how to use the phone . I know that the newest Motorola v505 got pretty good reception capability (one of the best ratings). How is this possible to get more coverage with Cingular than with AT&T Wireless.

Don't know where you live, but where I live Cingular coverage beats AT&T coverage by far; Cingular reception beats AT&T reception by far. When I was with AT&T the most I got were three bars, even outdoors. With Cingular I've gotten all seven bars more times than not. Finally, Cingular customer service beats AT&T customer service by far. You like AT&T, great, stay with them. As for me, I switched from AT&T and have gone with Cingular, and glad of it.
