I had been playing with MP3 ringtones on my 7000 and realized how quickly they were eating the stock memory when I found a serious point worth noting.

If you do not turn off your phone, your get it now memory reading will NOT be accurate. If you leave the phone on, everything you have uploaded to the phone will stay in 'memory' on the get it now meter.

Be sure if you are doing anything that involves the memory: uploading apps, ringtones, photos or what ever... turn the phone off and back on so you can actually tell how much memory you have left.

Just something that I found, so hope you all find it somewhat useful.

is the "Get it now" Memory use the same memory as the Ringtones and wallpapers i put in my phone via data link cable? because 4.82 MB is NOTHING compared to the 32 MB that the LG 6100 and SAMSUNG a670!, or is that different memory?, becuase i can put a lot more music and wallpapers on my phone then my friend can on his 670

According to LG's Specs, the 6100 only has 2.9MB of memory or about 60% of what the 7000 has. This is mostly due to the fact that it doesn't support either the memory hungry video or mp3 ringtones.

The 670's on the other hand do contain 32MB of ram which allows for the additional voice dialing, way more in the way of photo storage - which as far as I know is a limit of 1000 photos (pict001-pict999?) and additional MMS storage. While these are nice features, I have yet to sucessfully get a MP3 ringtone to upload, so I don't see much point in the memory size.

If you want to make your friend feel better about his 32MB's, just shoot photos until your phones are full... He will get about 1000 shots and you will get about 45...

The memory displayed on the Get It Now info screen is for the get it now stuff only. It doesnt include your videos, tones, or ringers.

You have approximately:

5MB - Get It Now
4MB - Sounds
4MB - Videos
4MB - Images and Pictures

You can never tell how much memory is left on the phone until it is completely full.

You also commented that you have yet to get an MP3 to upload successfully??? What kind of problems are you experiencing, I may be able to help. I have about 25 MP3 ringtones uploaded to my phone.

Hope this helps clarify.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you actually only have 5.1MB of memory in the VX7000's. The 7000's fixed memory was the biggest draw back to the phone next to the lack of bluetooth. And the phone's software - the tools menu, even chews up some of the 5.1 megs leaving 4.8 free for applications, photos, videos and ringtones.

And thanks for the note on the ringtones. I have found that both the Samsung 670 and the VX6000 do not have MP3 support so they would not work.

I was using this post information as a reference. He says you get 4MB for each of these, and lists the items after that. Maybe we will never know for sure. Have you ever filled up the memory, when no more stuff would go on the phone?? I havent... yet icon_smile.gif

Yep, that's one of the things that I noticed at S-C-U-M. The information there seems to be a bit questionable. I think either the person posting that is confused or misread what the memory actually is. You are allowed 4MB for all of those catagories, not for each one.

Currently, I have 6 games, 1 photo, 1 MP3 and 32 MIDI rings. I am using about 1.9MB of memory. When I add photos, it takes about 20 to take up an additional meg (at 640x480) and apps will add about 200k per game, depending on the actual game size. MP3 rings are about 200k for a 30 second 64k tone.

I have taken mine all the way out to .19MB available, which is the closest I have ever gotten to full. The 4 MB limit is posted on every review out there, as the system software and stock wallpapers take up about a meg of memory.

Here are a few examples...

Hopefully this will dispell the rumors about the memory size. You can also check your manual which will tell you the internal memory of the phone is only 4MB plus the 1MB of system memory which is the contacts, calendar and tools. Which is nearly double of any LG phone before the 7000 hit the streets. Overall, the 5MB is very hard to fill up and is adequate for almost every user out there.

For a point of reference, the 25 MP3's you have should only run about 2MB or 1/2 the phone memory. Go to your get it now menu and check your usage - should be in the neighborhood of 3MB or so...

Thanks for the references. I agree, there is plenty of memory. I have 25 wallpapers and 25 ringtones and it shows 9% full, 460k.

......the VX6000 do not have MP3 support ......[/quote]

My buddy has the 6000 and can download mp3's from sony musci box, in the get it now, plus we dump mp3's on there via data link...we have read everywhere that this phone does not have mp3 support, but there was one site that had mentioned that the 6000 does not support it but in fact that is untrue.by tricking the phone(renaming the file to .MIDI), you can succesfully have real songs on the 6000. icon_smile.gif

What's the encoding you are using. I tried 64k/22.5/mono and I couldn't get the files to play back. Course, I haven't tried via data cable yet, just MMS via email. Maybe the trick is to just get the file in the phone? It would be great to find that one out. I have a few friends that have 6000's that would love some MP3 ringers....

Thanks!

PS - I might have found a way to extract the videos from the phone using the data cable and bitpim... Still trying to get them to play, but I have gotten them out... I will keep you posted...
