I am having same issue: charging of Sony Ericcion T610 cell phone.
It started as an intermittent problem, now it effectively doesn't charge at all.
If I leave it plugged in and switch it off, the joystick light comes on continuously, but the screen lights up intermittently saying "charging" and then goes off again . This is the only way its charging right now.
Its not a charger problem as I've tried with 2 different chargers. Also these chargers do work perfectly with other T610 sets.
Its not a battery problem as I've tried another battery with no effect. The battery works fine in the other T610 sets.
I have opened the phone, cleaned the connectors and its contacts on circuit board inside. Still the problem persists.
Any ideas?

I just cleaned the contacts on the charger with a paper towel soaked with just a touch of isopropyl alcohol and then laid the damp part of the towel over the connection on the bottom of the phone and used a plastic fork tine to rub each of the three connections.
The charger connects every time immediately now.
Thanks for the advice! I took a cotton bud and some alcohol(70%) and just rubbed the connectors with it. It charges now so it worked!

happens to me all the time, too. I use my pocket knife's pointy tool to scratch dirt off the connectors on the phone.

It's not a very good idea to scratch the connectors with a knife as it will damage the gold coating on the connectors. Cleaning with isopropyl solution will be a more appropriate measure.
Poor connector design has always been a major cause of charging problems associated with Sony Ericsson mobile phones. I have experienced these since the Ericsson T68 days. I can't understand why until today this ineffective design is still in use, at least in my K700. I wouldn't own this Sony Ericsson mobile had it not been a present from my daughter.
Sony should have rectified this problem when they bought over Ericsson. I believe if they would resolve this critical problem, they will be on the way to command a bigger market share of mobile phones. Frankly, the charging problem really puts me off. I think many other Sony Ericsson owners feel likewise.
