This is my first post in Mobiledia.
Let me just say this.
I AM a die hard AT&T TDMA customer. I don't know how many actual TDMA customers that are left out there,
(it is even getting harder and harder to find old AT&T customers at all who have not migrated)
but I for one am not going anywhere for the foreseeable future.
I have had my prepaid Free-2-Go plan with AT&T since my Freshman year, and I intend to go off to college in the fall and I am taking my phone with me.
Truth be told, it is primarily because I will be depending on the backup analog AMPS network that is the ONLY coverage between home and where I will be going to college.
(I live in Round Rock Texas north of Austin and my college is out in west Texas, where there is very little in the way of Digital service from any provider, I have checked their maps)
Yes I know that Sprint and Verizon both have analog capable phones and plans, but Sprint doesn't offer any feasible prepaid plans, and I am not about to shell out a MINIMUM of $30 a MONTH in ACCESS charges with Verizon to use a prepaid account. On top of having to buy minuets. Right now I can buy a $20 refill card and not use it all in nearly TWO months, and they wont expire for THREE!
I am aware that Cingular Orange has announced that they will be deactivating their TDMA and AMPS networks by 2008, but until they (or someone) can get there acts together and build a TRUE nationwide, or at least a descent regional digital network in this area, I will be keeping my phone (Nokia 8260, which I have had the entire four years thus far) and service untill doomsday, (The day that I loose service entirely).
Once they do deactivate the old network, I will have to hope that they have expanded their digital network by then, or I will have to find a new carrier.

hi guy I just joined this group:
I am a current ATT blue customer my 2 yr contract is about to end at the end of May2006. I am in need of a new phone immediately because my phone battery dieds frequently. My fiance is a recent cingular customer on a 2 yr contract (living in a different area code) and we were thinking of sharing a family talk plan, she is willing to change her number if needed. I would like to know what is my best option/cheapest plan of action. (without paying for transfer fees, etc)?
Furthermore, the company I work for is offering company discounts. So I would like to redeem the discounts.
Should I stick with my plan and get a new phone?
Should I migrate to cingular and convert it to a family talk plan ?
Should I join her cingular plan and convert it to a family talk plan?
what should i do to add a 3rd line to the family plan?

If you need a new phone, then just go online and find a cheap one on ebay. As long as it is an AT&T branded phone, or is SIM unlocked, in which case it can be used by any GSM carrier. All you have to do is just take your SIM out of your old phone and put it in the new one. No need to get Cingular involved.
BTW: As an ATTWS Customer, even if your contract is about to expire, you DO NOT have to migrate! Despite what the CS reps might tell you at the stores! As long as you still have your AT&T Blue SIM card you CAN stay with your current plan for as long as you want!
However, since it appears that you are trying to move plans you may have some trouble. There are a few things you can do though.
First:
If your plan is with the company you work for,(as in your company is the one that you got you signed up with AT&T) then you have to go through AT&T Wireless old bussiness contract division,(I aplogize I dont remeber what its actual name is) in order to change your plan. In which case you might be able to get your fiance onto a family plan with you through that, but your fiance is still in her 2yr contract, so she might have to pay termination fees.
Also if this is the case, you most likely will not be able to migrate to Cingular anyway unless your company does, I am fairly sure of this.
Second:
If you are not on an AT&T plan with your work, (you are on a personal plan that you signed up for individually) you might be able to get the old AT&T CS reps to put her on your current plan as an extra line. Not sure about that, but it is worth a try. She would in affect be doing a "reverse migration," I know that some people have been able of doing this, but it may only work if your fiance once upon a time had an AT&T account, not sure.
Third:
You may have to migrate to Cingular, in which case you would have to sign up for a Cingular Family plan and add your fiance as a second line, (after she terminates her service, as I am pretty sure that you can not have a family plan with multiple area codes, not sure).
For the record, these are by far not the only options you have, but these are some that I could think of that might apply.
My suggestion, call and talk to the old AT&T CS reps, explain the situation, and see how they can help you. I think that they would be your best bet.
The following link goes to another thread that list a lot of AT&T Wireless CS#'s. I believe that you would need to call the first or second number on the list. And be sure and get some one that can speak english, just as a rule of thumb, outsourcing has been killing us.

thank for your quick reply. I have no choice but to migrate when i come back from my trip to Canada (out for 3 weeks) because Cingular does not have the GSM NA plan.
I might as well keep my ATT plan with the NA plan for now and take a temporary cheap phone to use for now because my phone batteries are almost drained is dropping calls.

well i called att cs rep he said that it would be cheaper to stick with my ATT plan for 3 weeks then migrate when I come back versus migrating to Cingular now and comeback with a expensive cellphone bill.
Cingular Canada package for $3.99 a month, customers pay just 59 cents per minute to roam in Canada and just 19 cents per minute to call Canada from the U.S.
what a robbery!!!

Und530, Are you still working there, and can you help me?
I have a pre cingular merger - ATT wirless plan and device. My phone got busted, but i don't want to switch to Cingular - same plan is 20$ a month more expensive and coz of family plan, they want my husband to switch too.
is there any way to get a new phone without switching to cingular? Which phones are compatible with old ATT wireless plans?

Try to buy an unlocked GSM phone. You can not get a replacement phone from old AT&T.

I have been Id as a blue account .
I started with ATT wireless in 2002.
Just before, Cingular bought out ATTwireless in 05'
I signed a two yr contract. mobile to mobile, 7am to 7pm days 900 minutes. and 12 holidays (like weekends). NO Roaming
During my 2 yr service, the quality of calls dropped terrible.
Cingular literal tried to put a gun to my head to make me merge but I wanted them to make good on my drop calls, which consistently increased my minute usage monthly but I made them correct it each month.
My cell got wet in a rain storm so I had to purchase an unlock and used one on Ebay since cingluar refuse to sell me a new without merging.
Everyone,
Most of the newer phones can be unlock by your own computer, but there is an outfit in Utath. that will unlock for a nominal price.
Does anyone out there still have a hard copy of there old ATT contracts?
I would be interested in getting a copy of each of different plans.
Lately, I have been get screw over because they don't recognize my plans features. Has this ever happen to any of YOU?
I said earlier my daytime minutes go from 7am to 7pm but cingular or the new Att will charge me for a 6am call because they only know cingular plans, or will charge me for daytime minutes on a holiday call which was a weekend minutes.
I would have migrated before but they never came up with a comparable plan!
I think it bull sh it ! That we should have to pay extra for earlier nights and weekend and still get screw over for one less hour in morning.
Roll over minutes is the biggest scam of all!
Cingular give less off peak time minutes so you can't save your daytime minutes to roll over. They must expect you to roll over your negative or imaginary daytimes .
If I did what they said, I would own them minutes (negative minutes)
I think a person should have the choice of whether they want a 20% discount or roll over minutes.
So again, I ask if there are blue Att acounts out there who have any copies of there old Att plans or contracts that might be able to get a copy of . ie My plan was american National plan something like that.

did the phone that got wet have a sim card? if so it sounds like the America National or an old Mlife national (at whatever price point).
there is a clause in the service agreement (sometimes referred to as a contract) that is quite clear that the carrier can change , add or remove features, change the agreement, coverage etc. here is the section (your service agreement changed since you activated) if you want the entire agreement. login and the link is there.
these are the current terms that apply now pasted below I have quoted the section that applies (not that it matters you would be by now month to month service {no contract})
"IF WE INCREASE THE PRICE OF ANY OF THE SERVICES TO WHICH YOU
SUBSCRIBE, BEYOND THE LIMITS SET FORTH IN YOUR RATE PLAN BROCHURE, OR IF WE
MATERIALLY DECREASE THE GEOGRAPHICAL AREA IN WHICH YOUR AIRTIME RATE APPLIES
(OTHER THAN A TEMPORARY DECREASE FOR REPAIRS OR MAINTENANCE), WE WILL
DISCLOSE THE CHANGE AT LEAST ONE BILLING CYCLE IN ADVANCE (EITHER THROUGH A
NOTICE WITH YOUR BILL, A TEXT MESSAGE TO YOUR EQUIPMENT, OR OTHERWISE) AND
YOU MAY TERMINATE THIS AGREEMENT WITHOUT PAYING AN EARLY TERMINATION FEE
OR RETURNING OR PAYING FOR ANY PROMOTIONAL ITEMS, PROVIDED YOUR NOTICE OF
TERMINATION IS DELIVERED TO US WITHIN THIRTY (30) DAYS AFTER THE FIRST BILL
REFLECTING THE CHANGE. If you lose your eligibility for a particular rate plan, we may change your rate plan to one for which you qualify."
