Two things...
FIRST
I've used the search feature on this forum, but couldn't find anything exactly that answers my question.....so I'm sorry for asking this question, cause i know its a repeated question.
is there an alternative way to get a better reception? I just got my new cell phone/plan, and the phone recieves excellent reception wherever I go. The cell phone also has excellent reception in buildings, even deep inside office buildings. However, my phone does not work in my home, which is about 8 miles away from the town where the tower is located. I can get reception in our backyard, about a foot away from our house (typically a bar, few feet beyond that, i can get anywhere from 2 bars, to almost 4 bars) however, if i go inside the house, or go in the front yard, there is no reception. So my theory is, my home is basically the borderline of none, or bunch of reception. What could I do, (inexepensively) to enhance reception? I have looked at the cell phone repeater as i have found recommended on this site, but they're too expensive for what little distance I need to get reception.
So if anyone has an idea what i can do, please let me know. BTW, i have T mobile with the SGH e315 Samsung phone. Fars I can understand, this is one of the better phones for receptions. If I am wrong, let me know. I wouldn't mind getting a different phone (as being the last step)....
SECOND
Because people have suggested using the amplified repeaters, i decided to do some research on them. I discovered cable TV amplifers (available at radioshack) has the same band ranges as cell phones, with amplifications up to 7dB... Could it be possible, to hook up an outside magnectic antenna to the amplifer, as well as hooking a wireless antenna to the amp. making this amplifer wireless, and not needing to hook anything up to your cell phone, and would amplify the cell phone 's reception?
this method would resemble just like this
http://wilsonelectronics.com/amps/wcamps%20-%20new%20in%20progress.htm
if this were to work, you could have a total 16.32 dB gain.
Does anyone know if this'll work or not? thanks
Happy Holidays!

It sounds like an issue with the reception inside of the home interference with the wireless service and inside of the building, if this is the case there’s not a lot that can be done
You can go to your local retail T-Mobile store and check the coverage map for your physical address to see if they are going to add new sites or if there is service impairment in the area that they are working on to date.
No the coverage map is not available online in which you can see it only at the retail T-Mobile stores or Customer Service.
Check the website for a store location near you and don’t pick a time that they are busy, little help when it’s like that

this might sound funny but when i was using the e715 i put a piece of foil behind the battery and improved my reception, especially in my house. had it on there for a year and even did it to some of my friends phones. worked pretty good if you don't get reception in the house.

I'm in the same situation and I'd like to know what you did to make it work. there has to be something at radio shack that would fix this. i have already got a 3 watt booster but i have to have my phone plugged into it all the time. I'd rather not have to pick out my new phone from the limited list of ones with an antenna port. thanks for the reply

Maybe that reply will not answer your question, but I also have TYPICALLY SAME PROBLEM as you do. I get a reception outside of my house, and T-Mobile PErsonal Coverage Checker tells me I am spposed to have 1 bar at my address. I do get it but only when I am outside - I hardly ever get a reception at my house upstairs. It is only at night usually near the window. Usuallly when I see T-Mobile sign I am happy I will not change service provider because it has the best offer for me. And I checked lots of phones and nobody gets a receptin over there. I'm happy to be in Poland now where 97% of the country is covered.

NO reception and dropped calls with ATT, in the San Pablo/Richmond area(CA). Especially along Richmond Parkway to San Pablo Avenue and along San Pablo Avenue until Appian Way.
No matter what the phone is (I have had three different phones) There will be no reception in the house. But the second I step out the front door there will be 4/5 bars. And constantly dropped calls indoors. Can there be a stronger tower reception or another tower added in the San Pablo area. Its not even on the map coverage on ATT site.
Also many other ppl I know with ATT, we have all reported dropped calls at Richmond Parkway and San Pablo Avenue intersection. Without fail, the call will always be dropped once we cross that intersection!
