First of all I want to thank everyone in this forum!! it has been a great help with a lot of information. thanks to everyone
Next, to those who are new here . . . . . SEARCH B4 YOU POST. Alot of people post here so odds are your questions have been asked and answered already. This is my first post, and I found a lot of info just looking thru old posts. NOW . .for the good stuff
I have a E315. The USB cable I use I got from Ebay for like 10 bucks. Usually they come with drivers . . but Ive seen posts asking for them so here is the link for them . . . REMEMBER many samsung phones use this USB connection so if its the same cable it will work for your phone too.
DRIVERS http://tech.prolific.com.tw/visitor/v_fileBrw.asp
http://tech.prolific.com.tw/visitor/v_FileBrw.asp?flagtree=yes&flagsho w=yes&
TypeID=138583&CateID=138583 when you go here do a search for ----- wd_pl-2303 ------ this is the file name
Now as for making ringtones. The Samsung line uses the .MMF format. NOT MP3. Now, thru trial and error the biggest ringer file i have been able to upload into my phone is 40KB-- about 10 second .wave.
I have read posts that say the .mmf conversion of an MP3 sounds like "crap" THIS IS INCORRECT -- it sounds about as good as a 32kbs .mp3, and on the little phone speaker its not gonna be CD quality anyways. So really converting is worth it if u wanna have total control and you like doing it ( and its free !!) so first your gonna need the data cable. Samsung sells it for 80 bucks -- GET IT FROM EBAY FOR 10 bucks.
it should come with drivers, but if not get from top link. Next you need "EASY GPRS" found here http://www.samsung.com/support/ProductSupport/download/index.aspx
Go thru the menu and select your PHONE model and look at "software" and youll find the software download, and a manual in .PDF ( THIS IS ALL THE SAME FOR E105 BTW.)
now you need a music editing program. I have read about PSMplayer on this site . . but have never used it . so dont know how good it is. I use "AUDACITY" its AWESOME and totally free!!! no spyware, no registration, nothing. that can be found here http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/
Now . . you import a song file ( usually MP3) cut the part u want ( less than 10 seconds) then ** export as a wave file. now you take that .wav clip you just made and convert it to .MMF again there are many programs for this. but i think easiest, best ( and again free) way is the yamaha converter at http://smaf-yamaha.com/tools/downloads.html i have read bad reviews about this software in this forum but again its not true. this thing works good and fast (instant) Also at this yamaha site you will find the Yamaha .MMF radio player. download this also so you can check your work. again free . . and very easy to use.
so you take your .wav clip. Put it in the converter, and *BAM* you have a .MMF file (hopefully smaller than 40 KB) now you crank up EASY GPRS.
If your having problems connecting -- GOTO SETUP AND CHANGE THE PORT SETTINGS i.e -- try going from COM2, or COM3, or COM4, ( if you using IRDA -- then goto IRDA --- ETC. Alot of people have problems connecting and its because the program is using the wrong fricking port.
Once that is working goto upload sound --- select your .MMF file and press upload and VIOLA. you have your custom ringtone uploaded.
There are many programs and ways to complicate this process. But i think this is very easy and fun. and im a beginner.
I hope this helps you guys. good luck and have fun ( also remember, the proccess is the same for the e105, and many other samsung phones)

Ooh hey thanks Now I just gotta get my darn soundcard to work so I can actually hear the song and clip out which part I want to be put on my phone, lol.
Oh yea, and I never needed to download any drivers. :whistling: Which is awesome lol. All I had to do was plug in the usb datalink cable, download EasyGPRS, and then plug in my e315. No, I didn't use any software, since all I did was borrow this single cable from my friend. Nice walkthrough.
THIS SHOULD BE PINNED! :] Or stickied, whatever works.
Yea I'm a moderator at another forum. I'm such a nerd..

^ .. I just left things blank lol. I just kept clicking okay or next or something.. That was like 2 weeks ago :pinch: It's sort of hard to remember.
Usually I just input either some BSed number or something... It's not like I'm connecting my phone to the internet or anything... So why would I need to input my real number?

Hi, I have followed your process by opening a mp3 file song file, converting it to wav and then using PSM player, and the one from yamaha's site to converrt it to a mmf file
when i'm in easyGPRS, i try to download the file to my phone, and it says "Fail to send melody to phone"
Do you know what's wrong? could it be because my mmf file has is actually someone singing, and just not a regular polyphonic ringtone?
but then, i've also seen people that got mmf ringtones with actual singing in it to work.
btw I'm using a S308 right now

i've tried that too, but it still doesn't work
however i found that it works when i limit the length of the ringtone to 10 seconds or less
anything more than 10 seconds wont work
but thanks anyways

^ Yes, I think s/he established that it can only be a maximum of 10 seconds.
Realize that most of the time, there IS an uploading limit on your phone. Such as for my phone, I can only upload 30 kb images/wallpapers for my phone, and there is a frame limit. Those who say they read should reread again.
And by NO means do I say this with any hostility. I'm just being blunt.
