Got the usb data cable from tangshop. Fits the VX7000 great. I plug in my phone and I'm prompted to install the drivers. Each driver fails in the same way saying the driver did not install properly, with the message: can't find the file specified, among others. Not sure what I'm doing wrong
Any help much appreciated!!

admz24 -- thanks for the link! The installation process went fine, but when I plug in my VX7000, I get the new hardware found wizard popping up and asking me to point it to the drivers. That shouldn't even be necessary. Anyways, I point it to the LG drivers and I get the "problem installing the driver" message just as before.
Starting to wonder if my cable is bogus, although the system correctly identifes the names of the LG devices, so some communication is happening correctly.
Other info -- attaching to a DELL 4600, with a USB 2.0 port, which is supposed to be backwards compatible with USB 1.0.
Any other thoughts most appreciated.

it was a little expensive but it was a gift so i don't mind...it's the official VZW data link...i just had to reinstall them again on another computer, ran into the problem....but what i also saw was that you have to install usb AND com drivers, so you have to do it a couple of times, try and read carefully, take your time, try the LG site for drivers....datapilot i think has some drivers for you...if all else fails, i can try and send the VZW offical drivers from the disk i have...let me know

Nytro -- Thanks for the thought provoking post and the tip about www.datapilot.com. They have the most detailed how-to regarding the cable and driver's I've seen. I downloaded their drivers, but still no luck. I'm starting to think I have a defective cable.
Some questions for you:
When you plug in just your cable (no phone attached) on a virgin system, does WinXP prompt you for drivers? Mine doesn't. I don't see any unknown devices in device manager when just the cable is installed. My cable itself is a non-entity to windows.
Later, when I attached my phone, windows starts prompting me for all the various bits, and of course they all fail to install. I never see anything resembling a com port appear in dev manager. When I install ser2pl.sys (regardless of which one I use) the result is always failure with the message "can't find the file specified".
Many Thanks!

with just the cable connected windows will not pick it up.....so your good there....when the phone is connected is when it recognizes something is there.
thanks zcarman for sending him some drivers!
i don't think your cable is bad....thats gotta be very rare if it is...you might have other drivers or another program interfering with the installation of these drivers. any thoughts Zcarman?

I tryed the links you guys posted, none of them worked for me. I have the LG VX7000BK, and bought a plain USB cable with out an install CD. When I plug in the USB cable, windows looks for a driver for a CP2101 USB to UART Bridge Controller. It displays it as other devices with a big yellow ?, and of course it dosen't work. Can any one help?
Thanks

Do not let anyone tell you this is a unique problem. I have unloaded all drivers and retried many times all with the exact same problem. The cable is not bad. the drivers do not load for a reason yet explained by any thread. I suspect bad code in the driver itself. If a mismatch existed it would be shown in the system. Don't give up... I have tried two desktops and two laptops all have the same problem "finding" the driver file...
