Hey....
I'm considering buying a Motorola V600 off of e-bay for use with my cingular service. I've found a couple that say they are locked for the cingular network, and then some that are direct from the manufacturer (motorola), and they can work on any network. I was just wondering like what would the difference between the phones from cingular and the ones from motorola? Would the 'direct from motorola' phone have any different functions that I wouldn't be getting on my 'cingular v600? Like, would I be able to access the cingular web browser, and do all my cingular related stuff? If not, is there any way that i would be able to get this stuff set up?
Thanks!
John

As I understand it, all gsm phones purchased from cingular is unlocked. The difference between a factory-direct V600 and a cingular V600 is that the factory version will not have any cingular logo, online shops, etc. You can still access the cingular site if you have the motorola version. Most users who has the cingular version do not like all the cingular stuff in it. Therefore, they flex their phones to "unbrand" it. Like me.
It is up to the user of which of the two he prefers.

ok, thanks a lot for a reply. Do you know if there is anything on the V600 cingular version that I would actually like though? Does the motorola direct version come with any games, ring tones, etc? If i ever wanted, could i flex the motorola direct version to a cingular version, or take it in to them to have it done?
one more thing.. what about my voice mail? Will that work correctly?

The motorola version will not have any games installed; Cingular has two. However, games are easy to find and u/l if you have the necessary items.
You would not be able to flex back to cingular yourself, perhaps the provider can.
Ringtones for each version are different. I can't say if you will like them as many users use their own. I deleted all the stock ringers/wallpapers for more space.
VM should need be an issue and should work in either version.

ok, thanks again for a reply...
You said games "aren't easy to u/l", do you mean they ARE EASY? Also what is VM? Do you think cingular would have any problem with me if I bought this phone... like would they still help me if i had problems? Currently, my cingular plan includes wireless internet browsing on my phone. Would I still be able to use that with my 'factory direct' version?
I'm sorry in advance for the number on questions i'm asking, but I just want to make sure i'm buying the right phone.

I am sorry for the typo about the games. You can find games on the net if you seach them. As for as technical support from cingular is concern, I don't see why there should be an issue offering you phone support. However, for warranty purposes, I don't have a positive answer on that. Let's hope you don't have to come down this road in the future.
Your internet service will not be interupted as long as your phone is wap enable and the wap settings are inputted correctly. The V600 is internet ready.
If you have any issues in the near future, there are few members including myself are ready to help. The response time is quite fast.
Vm= voicemail.

ok, you gave me some very good information, and I think im just gonna go with the V600 from motorola. Its a lot easier to find, and maybe I can find a good deal on it. Would you agree? Which do you have? One thing, you mentioned about doing games to it. Where can I get information about the games and software required to do it (I have the usb cable, and PhoneTools). If I somehow messed up my V600 by uploading games onto it, is it toast? Or is there a quick easy way to put it back to the original way... like restoring a computer. Basically, could I ever break my moto by playing around with the games
Thanks

Monkey123:
Not at all. You can't break the phone by downloading game to phone. You may get fustrated trying to d/l game to your phone as few other members have posted with their experiences. If you do happen to "toast" your phone, you can reflash your phone with flash files back to the orginal format. See motorola tutorial about Vxxx flash.
Games:
For starters, you can go to www.zedge.no As we are not allow to post links in the forums for games, warez, etc you can google search. You will need midway 2.8, jadmaker (freeware) to load games to phone. You may need to enable java app loader from phone, but I think it is enable if I am not mistaken. The motorola tutorial has a how to on it as well.
I have the cingular version V600 and flash/flex to .45R with the E9 flex. Don't quote me on this, but you may have the E9 flex as well with the Moto version. These files are not too hard to find. I can provide them for your when needed.

You mentioned some information about Flex/Flash. Are there any new flex/flashes that I will need for my new phone to make it better? What do they do?

Look in the motorola tutorial. As of this time, the lastest firmware is the .55R. I have heard it is not much different than the one I use. The only important note about this flash to consider is that once you flash to .55R, you cannot revert back to any other firmware. The reason being is that the .55R will install a new bootloader that will not recongize with pervious flash files.
These info maybe abite too much for you to grasp. Look into it more with a search.
