Can anyone lead me in the right direction of a usb cable for a V262. Every place I look the V262 is not listed in compatible phones. Plus any info on ways to get rid of the icons on the main screen or any other hacks would be appreciated. Thanks
Eric

If anyone has any info on USB data kit drivers I would also be interested.
They guy at the Alltel store sold me a data kit for the v60c/v60i/... and said it would work for my v262. It works great on my wife's v60i but the cd does not include the drivers for the new v262 and I can not seem to find them anywhere on the net. (I looked all the way to then end of the internet then turned around and looked again on my way back. ) I called the guy and he said, "Oh yeah they just told us that the drivers for that phone where not on the cd." Well, duh the box has been sitting in your store for months/years and the phone just came out this month.
Any way, USB data kit driver info for XP/2000 on the Motorola v262 mobile phone would be great!
Here's some info on the data kit I have:
MFG Part# S8951
Alltel Part# MDASM06
Compatable: V60c/V60i/P270c/120e/T720

To hide the icons - on the home screen:
From the home screen press menu, settings, personalize, home screen, home keys, icons will be at the top of the screen - press the right top button (or the right 'wheel' spot) - and change it.
I'm interested in a data cable as well. I'd like to keep my phone #'s and calendar data backed up, as well as download some midi/mp3's .. maybe some wallpapers.
Info on the cable/software here: (From Moto's site)
http://commerce.motorola.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/acc_sub_resu lts_phones.d2w/report?type=264139&search_string=27,29&cgmenbr=126&cgrf nbr=22
It doesn't list the 262... but it is on their site...

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info on getting rid of the icons on the home screen. I have seen that the v260 has been listed as the same cable so I ordered one. I still dont know if mpt has the driver for this phone yet or if the cable will work. I will let you know as soon as I get the cable.

Let us know how it goes!
Other sources:
http://www.bvrp.com/customers/motorola/v3 ($30 download - software only)
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/accessorydetail.asp?id= 19358 ($30 - with cable) (+ ship)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5733265288&category =35209 ($25 delivered - but will it work with the v262?)
Looks like an independant supplier? -> http://store.yahoo.com/cellular-blowout/moc6v1v2usbc.html <- (that is - it's not Moto - but DOES say compat with the 262!)
Happy clicking..
Thanks,
TM

Will ANY USB-motorola cable work? (with the V262)
I saw a kit yesterday @ Best Buy - had one cable - with many adapters to fit a variety of phones (from what I read - just one adapter per manufacturer) - plus software.. was $80...
Here's a good price on one $10 delivered:
$4 + $6 shipping
http://www.smartarea.com/ViewItem.php?id=001-DATAC-VSERI
My votes for this last one (since I picked up the software @ ebay)...
seems I read 'somewhere' online that the v262 was NOT compat with (demo software) changing sounds or images.
comments?

Well, I received my data kit for the V262 last Saturday. It came with the 2.0CD instead of the 3.0 CD, so I had to borrow a friend's broadband connection and use the Live Update feature to dowload the most current software which was version 3.19 then it worked ok so those of you that got the data kit for the other Motorola phones may try updating the software.

What functions were you able to perform with the software?
Ringtones?
Images?
Datebook?
Phone book?
Alarms, voice records?
I have version 3.11, running win 98se - the v262 (and v810) were detected - but the drivers aren't with the 3.11 version...(so I can do NOTHING) .. and I'm having trouble with the update - I click and - nothing happens... have tried this on a XP system with the same results.
I picked up the data cable at: http://www.smartarea.com/ for $4, a headset ($6) and a car charger ($2), and antenna - all work but the antenna - it was the wrong size).
