Ive got a v262, I followed instructions that came with MPT (install software then when it says to plug it in, plug it in) and just doing that didnt work. And MPT wont go any further when it trys to install your phone unless you have drivers for it. So when the "Add Hardware" wizard came up I just pointed towards the MPT cd for drivers. That still wont make it work, you have to run LiveUpdate, once it downloads and installs youll have to restart. Once everythings installed and it sets up your phone you might still have to go into General Setup and assign a modem. Just go into the Communication tab and click "Change Modem". The first couple times I did it it automatically found my phone but the past fews times it hasnt. But if it doesnt just go into Motorola CDMA> Motorola - V262. That should make it work. If someone figures out how to put music tones on post it somewhere!

Well, I received my data kit for the V262 last Saturday. It came with the 2.0CD instead of the 3.0 CD, so I had to borrow a friend's broadband connection and use the Live Update feature to dowload the most current software which was version 3.19 then it worked ok so those of you that got the data kit for the other Motorola phones may try updating the software.

Yep! I had run the LiveUpdate program and after that everything has been fine!
I've already put a few ringtones on my phone, and customized the wallpaper and whatnot. The cable really comes in handy for that plus fixing up your contacts and the like.
I couldn't find a specific model selection that seemed to work best with the v262 in the mobile phone setup part of the software. What I chose, if I remember right was (plus directions to get there in the software):
Tools-->Setup-->General Setup
Click the Communications Tab
Click "Change Modem"
Click Next-->Make sure "Motorola USB Modem" is selected and click Next again
Next again after it talks to the modem
Now you're at the driver selection screen.
I chose the Motorola GSM on the left, and the very last item on the right is Motorola - v220.
Using this driver gave me access to a composer and such, but I guess that really isn't needed. You can use it to make your own midi's though if you wanted.
I ended up just using the Multimedia Studio to transfer midis I found into the "audio" folder on the phone. They would then show up in the ringtone list on the phone when you scroll through.
Hope that info helps!

I couldn't get the driver to install on my Windows 2000 computer, but it installed fine on XP.

I found the software $8 cheaper on http://www.bvrp.com/customers/motorola/upgrade/US/ after purchasing at BVRP. I will reply with my success or failure story later. Where is the best offer on data cables?

I bought the motorola software and upgraded it, and I can at least transfer my contacts. I can't get it to transfer and ringtones though...I get the error "Unable to communicate with the mobile phone". I've tried V262, V220, V220ens... any suggestions?
