I beg to differ, they are sold as tri band in two different configurations, but if you look at the ATT site on phone capability you will see that ATT had them as quads (my wife's phone shows all 4 bands)

V180 and V220 are the farthest relation to the V series phones, and they are tri-band phones.

Cingular is tri (850/900/1900), but my ATT phone is quad. I tried the op command for 900/1800 on my cingular phone yesterday and it read successful, of course I need to go overseas to test it and won't be doing that until July.

I just bought a motorola v551 off ebay, and in the description the previous owner said it was unlocked, but it's prompting me to enter the subsidary code, so I'm guessing that it was never unlocked.
I contacted her though and she said that she used it on nextel and it's a cingular phone, but that could just be a bunch of crap.
It's a really nice phone though and I want it unlocked, but I need to find a place in canada that will do it because i'll probably have to pay duties if it goes over the border.
anyways is there anything on ebay thats not a scam or anything anyone can suggest?

You can buy remote unlock code on ebay for $29.99 to $40 but lately i heard of scam that they give you useless code then offer a solution like send it to them and they will unlock it for sure as a good faith, but in fact the remote unlock service charged a hight price.
Too bad if you are in USA send it to me and i'll unlock it for you ,but in CANADA will take some time to get here. I have a person that sent his fone to me from Canada a bout $7 4 to 5 days so it will take 10 bussiness days and $14 to send it back and forth.

Problem is that the guy I have used in the past isn't doing motorola's right now for some reason. He is located in Toronto and I trust him he is quick and reliabe. (He unlocked my V505 after another guy couldn't do it and wanted the phone as per old-fool's note above) , but he is currently only unlocking on the premises. email me and I can give you his info.

I am so mad. I purchased two V3 Motorla phones because my wife and I are moving to New Zealand and I find out that they will not work without the phones unlocked. The whole reason I purchased these phones was because we need a phone that will work over seas.
The trouble and cost associated with this make me ill. I am hoping that someone can get me the unlock utility to generate the unlock code or have the ability to help me unlock the phones.
The principal of this make me not willing to pay for this service - because the phone should have not been locked in the first place. I did not get these phones on a discount because I am not under any contract with cingular.
Ok. Here's my dilemma. Just recently purchased a RAZR V3 from Ebay. Ad stated it is factory unlocked. I thought it was COMPLETELY UNLOCKED and didn't know any difference. Me being naive, I purchased it. When I put in my T-Mobile SIM card in, it reads Cingular. I can make calls, receive calls, and send/receive texts, but no internet (T-Zones). Assuming it is because it reads Cingular, I call T-Mobile. The Customer Support Rep said she could help me. She will email me in a day or two. I receive an Email from T-Mobile saying my IMEI number is not in their product database, thus cannot give me a code or any option to remove the cingular name to read T-Mobile.
So, I call Motorola, brick wall there. They told me to contact my service provider. I call the seller of the RAZR, but no response. An option would be to call Cingular, but seeing as how many people in this forum hit brick walls calling cingular, I passed on that option.
So, reading this awesome forum, I decided to call around local shops. I was pointed to a shop called Orange County Car Phones on Bristol blvd in Costa Mesa. They had a smart clip machine. I was surprised. He gave me my SIM card and proceeded to Unlock it. I was excited. He gave me back the phone with confidence, but when I turned the phone on, it still read Cingular. So, I was heartbroken.
Now, is there anything else I can do?
So, two questions now.
1. How can I remove the Cingular Logo and replace it with T-Mobile? And is this the cause of my T-Zones not working?
1. How do I get my T-Zones working if changing the Cingular logo takes too long? Setttings change on my phone maybe?
I'd also like to add that before i had the RAZR, I purchased a Nokia 6260 from Ebay. Ready to sell it though because it was too bulky. But it was great because as soon as I put in my SIM, it read T-Mobile with no problem. Then, on their own website, they have a great feature with creating settings for your phone, (IE Internet setting specific for provider, phonebook transfer, etc.) via SMS. Save the settings from the SMS message and your good to go! I thought that was awesome and just wanted to share that.
Motorola makes it so difficult.
Any help and/or responses would be greatly appreciated.
