Although most Motorola phones are nearly impossible to unlock without the proper equipment(s), your other options are to call your service provider, Motorola directly, or a local phone shop for assistance. Furthermore, subsidery codes are not easily obtained via the net nor do we have them.

what is the advantage of having an unlocked phone? The reason im asking is because i was wondering if having an unlocked phone will help me transfer my .mp3's to my phone since im not able to at the time. when i use MPT 3.11 on my Windows XP Pro and phone Moto V300 it says "Not Able to Communicate with mobile" when i try and transfer the mp3's to my phone. Evrything else works just fine except the multimedia studio. Can you really help me plz?

Having an unlock phone means that you are not limited in using one gsm service provider's sim card. Users wolud unlock their phones for traveling out of country purposes where their current provider will not work or the cost per call is too expensive.
A lock phone has nothing to do with your mp3 playback issue but the software. MPT is known for installation problem due to varies reasons.

My dad used to have tmobile but now we have cingular and i'd like to use his old v400 (he said he would give it to me) - but I don't know if it'll work with cingular - is this possible to unlock? I've only dealt with unlocks on tdma bands.
If so - how is it done?

Yes it is . There are three methods that i know of.
1- IEMI# calculation, cost $25 to $45 (no one will do it for free!) you pay for the service thru pay pal, they'll email you a web site to down load a loger program ( you still need data cable)hook you fone to your pc , run that program, it then will read you bootloader data in binary code then you send that loger file to them, they will use they special calculating program to generate the unlock code and email it to you with instruction of how to enter it in.
2-Smart clip ( it's a device) Cost $10 to $15 plus shipping this require to send your fone out to have the service done. They hook your fone to this smart clip and flash it( changing a few bits in you bootloader to unlock) only take 15 second to unlock.( i'll do it for you free, you just have to pay for shipping back and fort.).
3- Flash and flex to updgrade will unlock your fone too. This method you 'll need softwears like MSS, PST and Flash and Flex Files cause you are going to change the firm and softwear of your fone. This is the dangerour method that we all love to do, but there are many changes to kill your fone and find those hardwear above is not an easy task.
The first two method are the safest to do they won't change feature or function and not avoid your fone warranty.

No pun intended, right? So something like this would work as long as I have the data cable, right?
