hello
I have had a whole week of deciding which phone to go for T610, nokia 3650,or the nokia 7250 i have decided on the sony.
I started to look for polyphonic ringtons for the sony T610 but didnt find many sites, most are for the nokia, finding any extras for this phone seems hard, am i just looking in the wrong place or is there a lack of downloads ?
Im going to buy the phone this week but this may change my thoughts on the sony.

Hi Kara,
Polyphonic ring tones are not manufacturer specific. Ring tones come in one of two file formats: mmf and midi. Samsung phones use mmf and Nokia and Sony Ericsson use midi. This isn't a big issue however becauee there are programs that can change midi files to mmf.
What's more important is the number of instruments each phone is able to play simultaneously. Polyphonic simply means the phone can play more than one note at a time. The more notes the phone can play, the better sounding the ring tones will be. You can take a look at the cellular phone database to compare, but currently Samsung has the best sounding ring tones with 40 simultaneous instruments.
As for other extras for the T610 you can find backgrounds, and themes on this site as well in the downloads section.

thanks for the reply,
does that mean most sites will support the sony ? im in the uk and im wondering if the reason the sony T610 is not on any of their lists is because its new over here. i must have looked at 30 ring tone sites and only found one (and this one) which has the ring tones for the T610.

Most likely it's not listed because the phone is new. Give them time and they'll probably add it to their list of phones.
You shouldn't think of ring tones as manufacturer specific. Nokia uses midi files for ring tones, so does Sony Ericsson. Thus both Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones can play midi ring tones. So to answer your question, yes. Most sites will support the T610.

you don't need a 'ringtone site'. most of music bands fan sites has midi sections.

There are thousands of midi files and they all work . If you download PSMPlay them you can cut them and make them louder

Also it's important to note that while phones like the se t610 and samsung v205 have more simultaneous polyphonic tones than other phones, it's pretty hard to find a MIDI that actually plays 40 tones simultaneously.
I haven't been able to find one with more than about 20 simultaneous tones. (you can see this with a program like GoldWave...)
There are still a couple of sites out there where you can get a lot of MIDIs for free. There used to be tons of them, but alas, most have converted to commercial sites charging a couple dollars per MIDI! But if you look hard enough, you can find free sites.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. In fact, I can't find a tune that plays more than 4 instruments at a time.

There's a ton, literally thousands of websites out there dedicated to videogame music. Although some of the tunes run for around 2-3 minutes, you can trim the best bits with software.

I have got quite a number of polyphonic ringtones that are more than 4ch. I uually have to run through them to 'pick' the 4 that 'make most sense', if not the ringtones don't sound right...

Can a T610 will be able to play a music clip (with voice, eg. mp3) as ring/message alerts like P800 does? And one more thing, does it come in package with its fm radio headset? Im planning to get this fone soon and need to decide if it will carry out what im looking for a fone. thanks a lot.
