I think you need to be in a correct mode to do this. I assume you are wanting to do this for proper vmail setup.
Go to your vmail set-up:
"Envelope" button
Menu - top center button
"Voicemail Setup"
"Change" Voicemail no:
--->
Then Press and hold "*" to get "p"
This should work.
Alternatively, you can also just enter a couple of numbers on the main screen like you are dialing a number -- say "1800" -- then press and hold "*" and you should see "1800p".
If you don't your phone is not working correctly.

While entering the numbers, press the "Options" button, which is the top left button. This allows you to select from several things, one of which is a pause.

Motorola V3xx (USA version, and not tested on any other RAZRs.)
To insert a "Pause" in an ADDRESS BOOK phone number entry:
1 From the 'idle' screen, press the Center Button (or MAIN MENU)
2 Navigate to the Address Book then press the Center Button (or SELECT)
3 Navigate to your previously stored number you now want to modify
4 Press OPTIONS
5 Press DOWN ARROW to EDIT CONTACT then press the Center Button (or SELECT)
6 Navigate to the NUMBER field
7 Press the Center Button (NOT OPTIONS, yet) and view your previously stored number
8 NOW press OPTIONS then press SELECT for Insert
9 Chose Pause, Wait, or "n"
10 Press the Center Button (or SELECT)
11 Observe that your choice (P, W, or 'n') now appears where your cursor WAS in your string of numbers
12 IF you need to insert more P W or 'n's,
THEN press OK and return to step 6, above
ELSE IF finished, press OK then press DONE.
ALTERNATE METHOD:
At whatever point you want to enter a 'P' (ONLY), hold down the "*" key until a 'p' appears.
NOTE:
Assigning a Speed Dial Number to the modified number will NOT work
as the digit sequence processing stops/dies at the first P, W, or 'n'.
