Migration of service from AT&T to Cingular was made to sound easy.
This is NOT the case!
I am having a very difficult time with Cingular regarding migration from AT&T. All was promised to be a smooth transition but thus far I have experienced nothing but frustration from delay of order entry (by 10 days!), delay of shipping, shipped phones with incorrect SIM cards, and a huge delay in transferring our AT&T numbers over to the new GSM phones purchased from Cingular. I still do not have service established!
Anybody else losing their patience with Cingular?

As a 7+ year user of AT&T, I assumed that migrating from AT&T to Cingular - in the age of modern technology - would be reasonably simple and quick. My wife and I currently have our own AT&T line, so with Cingular's $9.99 second family line, moving to Cingular would save us money. However, numerous attempts to "migrate" online have proven fruitless. Our luck via phone contact has been equally frustrating and unrewarding. To complicate matters, we moved from Colorado to Maine in 1998 and simply changed our billing address - and there was never a question about our original AT&T wireless number. Now, Cingular is making it extremely complicated and difficult (if even possible) to keep the original number.
Does anyone know of a contact phone number or website (we have tried the standard AT&T and Cingular numbers and sites) that can help us sucessfully navigate through the Cingular Migration Twilight Zone!

Sorry that you are having all this difficulty. Best way is to go to one of their stores if you have one close by. I too was (past tense) an unhappy AT&T wireless customer. After so many dropped calls, at the beginning of December I went to one of the local Cingular stores and asked the clerk what I had to do to switch to Cingular and if it would cost me the penalty fee. He said that he could do everything then and there, and since Cingular now owns AT&T wireless, there would be no penalty fee. Picked out my phone, gave him my cell phone number, and in about 15 minutes walked out of the store with a new cell phone and a customer of Cingular. Currently, I am verry happy with the service. Reception has improve 100%, no dropped calls, and no problems. I did lock up my phone fiddling with the PIN. Went back to the same store and they got it unlocked for me at no charge.
Like I said, I wouldn't mess around with the internet, very impersonal; I would go to a Cingular store, if one is in your vicinity.

I bought 2 new phones from att less than a year ago, and my husband dropped his, so I thought I'd try to replace just his. I went to the Cingular store and he tells me that since we have the family plan, we can't migrate our numbers, nor can I buy just a replacement phone for my husband. I have to buy 2 new phones! There's nothing wrong with mine, & I happen to like it.
What a rip off!

After numerous efforts to migrate a number I had for seven years from AT&T to Cingular (without success as I changed 'market' location) I attempted - a number of times - to surrender, and move over to Cingular on the "migration" web site - again, without success. Their system would take me through a fairly long online process only to tell me that my zip code did not match my area code. Their system shows 207 as a Mass. area code, while in fact it is the ONLY area code where I live - Maine.
I finally made phone contact and the Cingular person was quite pleasant and helpful. Although we haven't received our phones yet, at least it appears that the 'migration' might work this time.
Still, you would think in this day and age the process would be simple and readily available online....So, it appears that handling the issue in person or by phone may get the desired results.

Mort, You sound like a great salesman for Cingular. But I have had nothing but dropped calls, poor reception, and little customer help (all go home at 5:00 unlike AT&T) from Cingular. I wish I liked them since I switched over, but it's been a nightmare and after much irritation, we are switching back to our AT&T plan tomorrow. Do you know if it's related to the area you live in? All three of our phones kept dropping calls and having poor reception. We live in a large metroplex in Texas, and had no problems with AT&T.

You can't migrate family plans online, you must either go to a store or call an at&t rep.
