I transfered my business phone from Verizon to Cingular after much praise from partners in San Antonio. I live and work in Boerne just 20 miles north of San Antonio.
When I signed up I said I needed the phone for the hill country and the helpful representative took me over to the coverage map and said look all dark red, we cover more than any other provider - "Raising the Bar". I said GREAT, I drive all over the hill country and require exellent connection at all times. She said we have you covered.
I filled out the application with my down town Boerne address. Transfered service and got a new phone.
I have to drive half way to San Antonio just to get my daily voice mail and make my morning business calls. No Boerne is not covered. there should be a white dot in the dark red area. Almost any small town aroung Boerne I get so so coverage and only great in San Antonio. I can stand on my business building roof and count 9 towers within 5 miles and also see the only tower with Cingular coverage 14 miles south.
The Cingular store denies ever telling me that I was covered and recommends a different phone to increase range.
So I miss 80 % of my bussiness calls on the road in Boerne and the Hill Country. I don't make as many sales for my bussiness as before and miss vitally important change orders daily, but it is much quieter and I have much more time for personal reflection.
ok first of all that peice of paper they oull out is just a general coverace area wont show small holes
secondly you really cant blame cingular on this one blame the sales rep that sold you the phone and said it will work, third you do/did have 30 days to return the phone if it didnt work, if i bought a phone got home and it didnt work i wouldnt think twice about taking back that same day.
its kind of a commen sence issue

I've had Cingular since before they brought Bell South in my area and have been fairly happy with them. I live in SE KY so you don't really have a choice in service providers. The only thing that irks me is that the phone manufacturs have stopped making external atennas for cell phones. I just upgraded my cell phone and plan from Nokia 8265 and 100 minute plan to a Nokia 6010 and 400 minutes plan-which i will never use all that. But I am having to purchase an external atenna for my truck that attachs to the window in order to get signal in some areas. Is that Cingular's fault? To an extent for not putting up another tower but it was the same on my old Nokia only difference was I had an atenna. Otherwise I've had great service from both service reps when I've called and in store.
The only problem I'm having with service now is that on my old phone I was able to get 1 bar in my house just enough to check voice mail. Now I can't get that...but late last night I got one bar. That confuses me.

Sounds like you are just in a crappy coverage area.
