Cingular is horrible! The service is not good at all. They need more towers. What is the purpose of Cingular anyway? And their prepaid is a total rip off!

another false blanket statement which doesn't help anyone, it all depends on your location and phone. i have perfect service where i am. the purpose of Cingular is to finally have a large GSM network in the US.

Cingular is awesome. I had TDMA ATT and it didn;t work worth of crap. The day i got Cingular was the best phone choice I have ever made. The service here is flawless.
You said you are on Prepaid? Thats probably why. That or you live int he mountains where there are no towers. We have GSM and we have coverage where our old TDMA phones didn't have.
Like someone said earlier, back up your statements, instead of just saying it sucks.... back it up...

I can only hope that you found out that "Cingular is horrible!", FOR YOU, within the 30 day trial period and are able to switch to a provider that fits your needs better.
I don't really understand the question: What is the purpose of Cingualr anyway?"
I have been a customer of Cingular, through its many name changes, for about 20 years and found it to be the best of the cellular providers FOR ME, I use the service for the purpose of keeping in touch with others via cellular phone.
I agree that their prepaid may be a total rip off and use AT&T for my spare prepaid phone.
Happy New Year.

Cingular is still horrible. It does not work for me or anyone in my town. It also doesn't work well with anyone at my huge university. It does not make sense for anyone to try to find a spot to get a good reception. Get a life. I can back up my statements but if you can't then don't open your mouth at all.

Wow, that post was really insightful, girl - you can't get reception at your university/town, therefore Cingular is terrible.
Most wireless providers are measured by their performance on a wider scale than one person in one area. Again, all you've done is provided us the "Cingular is terrible" - if you need a place to "vent", fine - vent away. I think the rest of us are unclear as to what to make of your post - i.e., you don't seem to be asking for help, or a way out of your contract - only to voice your very thinly supported "Cingular is horrible" comment.
I'm guessing you didn't see the news this morning - Cingular had 1.8M net adds for 4th Q... Guess not everyone shares your opinion...

exactly. Yeah, theres one hall in my school, that doesn;t have service, thats all. There hasn't been ONE area in a 75 mile radius that I have not been able ot get my phone to work, and I live in Oregon.
Heck I had TDMA, and then I got Cingular. I was in the store the other day, crystal clear reception.... no flaws what soever. The reason you probably have crappy signal strength is due to abuse of your phone, or your in the forrest or tulees somewhere.... or maybe your city is just not covered yet. YOu should have knwon this when you bought your phone. You need to look at coverage maps....

kind of a harsh statement with no backup...okay so you have bad coverage...where are you? is it tdma or gsm? in the university...all concrete walls? this has an effect....
i have had AT&T for 5 years with TDMA, and just switched to GSM with Cingular this month...My TDMA service has been great everywhere, with the exceptions of a few remote locations in Cali, Nebraska and West Texas (which was totally expected, especially since the parts of NE that i went to were still analog until the past couple years and they still do not have GSM). I switched to GSM primarily for the phone...but have had just as outstanding of service as i did with TDMA. I live in San Antonio, TX...so we are pretty covered.
With the joining of AT&T and Cingular the number of towers more than doubled, so lack of towers per se is not an issue....you may need to check where you are at and the conditions...you may be in an icky coverage area...it happens....check it out...

I have to say that Cingular is pretty darn great! I live in a fairly rural area ... so rural that the only companies to offer coverage is Cingular and Verizon. Not only do I have outstanding GSM reception, the few times I have had to call customer service were pain free. I had to wait less than 2 mintues each time, and every rep I have talked to was polite and helpful. Instead of blaming your problems on them, why not take a look at other factors i.e. building interferance, a possible crappy phone, etc.
