When you enter in your pin number too many times, the phone will ask for a PUK, which is a Phone Unlock Key. It really is put there for your protection, so if someone is trying to use your phone, and the pin is in place, they can't guess your code. Unfortunately each sim card has a specific PUK code, that customer care has access to. If you enter in the PUK code wrong too many times (usually 3), it will block the sim card, making unusable. (If the phone says sim blocked, you've already went to far. The only way to remedy this is to purchase a new SIM card, which you can get at a store for 25.00) |
just a couple minor techincal corrections:
PUK actually stands for PIN Unblock Key, as it is the PIN code that needs to be overriden. Also, it normally takes 3 incorrect PIN entries to get to the PUK screen, and the PUK can change at any time (ie. cust care has to look it up, and it might not be the same tomorrow as it is today). and normally you get 10 tries with the PUK before your SIM is permenantly and irreversibly fried.

I'm surprised they told you you had to have a new 2 yr. There is a way they can offer the M2M unlimited with a 1 yr contract. Did they also tell you that we have features (not requiring a contract renewal) that if you really wanted M2M, you can pay so much for so many minutes (example 4.99 for 1000 Mobile to Mobile Minutes). |
Well, They were not helpful at all!
All I was told was that I had to renew my contract for 2 years to make ANY Upgrades/Additions/Changes. I would be more than willing to pay the $4.99 as you stated to get M2M. I also wanted more minutes, the response was the same. I was never given an option to upgrade for 1 year. That's ridiculous. If you can help I would definitely appreciate it!

jwade, call customer care and ask them about the m2m feature. Tell them your not interested in a contract renewal unless they can offer the M2M with a one year contract. Also tell them that you know they offer a feature (no renewal) for 4.99 a month.
If they still can't help you ask to speak to the loyalty department, and we'll be glad to assist you from there.

Hi there,
I'm hoping you can help with this problem. I called Cingular 2 weeks ago to change my rate plan, and ever since then I have had trouble with my texting. At first I couldnt send or receive, each time I sent a message it would say "no service available". I called Cingular twice and they did something to at least allow me to send a message, the screen saying "message sent". But the people i send messages to do not receive them, and I cannot receive text messages from email or by phone. I called Cingular again and they sent me a message from their end, and I got it, but I have not been able to receive any since then. I've tried sending to my phone from someone else's phone, and they get a return message saying "no service available". I've tried taking the SIM out, taking the battery out, no change. Also, since I changed my rate plan the "GS" network symbol no longer shows on my phone.
I have a Samsung S307 that I bought from Ebay, the SIM card is mine from a Motorola V60i that I used to have.
I have the 750 test messaging feature that I might have to cancel if I can't use my test capability.
Any advice?
Thanks!

What youre saying is that you can only get text messages from care, right?
My first question for you is , did you register your phone with customer care after you bought it?
Did customer care verify there are no restrictions regarding your text messaging?
There could be an error in the system if they didn't remove the original pay as you go text messaging before they added the text messaging plan you have.
My best guess at this point (since it does not seem to be a settings error if you are recieving any text messages from care) is that there is a provisioning error.
You did change your plan though? That is even more of an indication that there might be an error in the system. If they didn't remove the first text messaging plan, then when the second text plan was added the system got confused on which one to use (what to charge). Since the care texts are free, there was no problem in sending them to you.
Call 611 and have them check your text messaging provisioning again. Advise them of the recent plan change and let them know that the only messages you can recieve are from care (if I'm right in assuming, of course). Also, if you didn't register your phone with them before, please do. Cingular randomly sends updates to your phone and if they still have your motorola on file they are sending the motorola's settings to the samsung device (which might also cause problems). In order to update that phone, you will need to have the IMEI number from the phone. You can get that by pushing *#06# . Also, call them from a landline phone so they can trouble shoot the wireless phone. Also, another way to double check if it is working again (however there is a slight charge) is to send a text message from the cingular website, instead of from our system. Ask your rep to do that after they assume that the messaging is fixed.

I appreciate the info you provided. I called customer care and registered my new phone, they cancelled my old text messaging and then added it on again.
The texting worked immediately after I called customer care.
Thanks again!

I have a cingular contract and a tdma phone. can i buy a cingular gsm phone on ebay and take it to a cingular dealer and have it activated without any changes to the length of my contract? how do i buy the right sim card on ebay for my location? is it the number of numbers (e.g. 20), or the starting several numbers? what is the significance of the sim card model number and the 32k vs 64 k etc.? I am in bucks county pa, but i'm sure other people want to know as well how it works. will a cingular dealer activate the sim card? will i be able to keep my current phone number? Thanks so much for your help!! |
Yes you can buy a Cingular GSM phone on ebay and have it activated but if you are wanting to change to one of the new nation plans with the mobile to mobile (m2m) included and you are past 12 months on a 24 month contract. you will have to agree to an 11 month contract extension which will start in the same month as the plan change. So if you have, for example, 7 months left on your contract the you will have an extension of 4 months. If you choose a plan without the m2m then you will not be required to have the contract extension. As for the SIM card you will need to go to your nearest cingular wireless retailer to buy a card. The cost will be around $25.00. Yes you can keep your current number. The 64k sim has greater storage capacity and in select phones it allows ENS Enhanced Network Selection which means that you will be consistenly homed to the cingular network wherever possible. This means that you will be able to consistently get the best possible services such as GPRS and EDGE and your phone will not have to search the network as often which will help conserve battery life.
