Nope. I did not rename the file (phonering.mp3). After uploading with BitPim it automatically showed up with my other ringtones. I selected it and voila! Now I've got a nice retro '60's rotary dial, bell ringtone.

Help. I received my usb cable from verizon wireless, and the software it came with will work. However, BitPim is not working. It keeps saying that it failed to communicate with the phone. No other programs are using the comm port the phone is on. Is there something that I could be doing wrong that others have experienced? I have tried re-installing the drivers, didnt work. Thanks

The LG 6100 does in fact play mp3 files. However it will NOT play mp3 files that are in stereo format. It likes the files to be 32kbps, 22,050hz, and mono. The phone also has issues with large mp3 files. It is best to keep the mp3's at 30 to 60 seconds in length.
As far as the file extension goes. On my phone keeping the mp3 extension confussed the heck out of the OS and forced me to reload the root directory and start over on all my modifications. So change the file extension to .mid and everyhting will be fine.
I use BitPim 7.23 and the data cable available with the Verizon office connectivity kit. To modify the mp3's I use a program called Audacity. Programs like Sony Sound Forge work as well.

I don’t know but I emailed an mp3 music file to my phone and it went thru, so perhaps it is capable to receive mp3.

I have a lg vx6100 and i have a data cable, and i have bitpim, but i still can't seng my phone any songs. i have cut songs down to 30 sec., segments, but i still can't seem to send it over, because it says that the com port it is in use, or closed, but yet i am not using any of my com ports for anything. How do i open the port then to use??? Email me at my email address. XXTrexxvorPxiekarczyk@yahoxxo.com (remove all x's)

i found this program at download.com called ToneThis. you open the program, load an mp3 and cut the part you want for your ringtone. it sends it as a pix message to your phone. unless you have some sort of pix plan, it'll cost you. here's the link if you're interested. http://www.download.com/ToneThis/3000-2056_4-10377364.html?tag=lst-0-1
