As i said earlier my speed dial is greyed out so i cant change the numbers like i want.Im on o2 PAYG.what i did do is change one of them to a number what i wanted,so its no solution as such.
I deleted one of the speed dial numbers,one i didnt want which was Directory enquires.Then the number i wanted to replace it was saved normally and then when it came to the name i stuck the > in front of it and it then become the speed dial i deleted.I stopped there but see no reason why u cant continue untill all the number u choose are speed dials.
Id like to know if anyone trys and succeeds

you may notice that all the preset speed dials are saved to the sim card no's 1 - 9. if you were to delete any of these the next number you save to sim (or copy) will automaticly take its place whether a > is place in front or not. as explained before this only works until the telephone is switched off, then the orignal numbers are back as speed dials and the one entered in thier place have gone.

Yeah ur totally right,my phone rarely goes off so i thought my own speed dials were saved.
