Mostly likely not. It is locked to Cingular network. However, if you unlock the phone, you can use any sim card including your ATT. Cost as between $20-$50

well it might. It depends whether your SIM CARD is the GSM or TDMA network. Cingular and ATT have merged. If your SIM with ATT is GSM network, I would most likely think it shoudl work in the V551. If its TDMA on the CARD, it WILL NOT WORK.

Well just because they merged it doesn't necessarily mean they will share all their profits...in that case ppl go to cingular buy best phones robbing ATT of all their profits. So no it will not work on ATT SIM unless you have it unlocked from cingular network. Which you can do remotely or call your service to have them do so. As duceduc said charges are in $20-50 range so your choice seeing as you just spent $249 for it.

First of all, If Cingular and ATT have merged, that means they are sharing their profits (and customers) as they are one now. If they aren't for some reason, then they cannot truly call themselves "merged". (See the dictionary!)

P.S. Its quite expensive to unlock fones in your countries! In South Africa it is R50, which is the equivalent to +- $8.

Keep in mind "Joined Forces" never means "Merged" and every company has to make suitable profits to run themselves. If ATT and Cingular truely "Merged" and people only bought Cingular product whats the point of ATT being there? Waste of profit to Cingular, so Cingular and ATT still depend on their loyal customers to fund their business'.

Okay then, now joined forces and merged are two totally different things! There are two networks in South Africa who have joined forces (Vodacom and Cell C), even though Cell C wouldn't be there without Vodacom's help, and they are total cellular enemies when it comes to customers!

It locked to ATT eventhough V551 is a Cingular phone (have X logo all over the phone).

I tried it with a Cingular SIM and it did not work!
