When did Cingular change its phone upgrade/new contract signing policy? Im aware that if you signed a 2 year contract for a new phone, and if it has passed 1 year from that contract, you can upgrade your phone for another one and then sign the contract again starting at 2 years. On Dic. 24 I went to an oficcial Cingular Office/Store so I could buy the Motorola V551 for my son, that was the only thing that he wanted for Christmas and an iPod (but there wasnt left any in Puerto Rico, so he had to stick to the Motorola) when we got to the service counter I said that I wanted to upgrade a Phone for the Motorola V551 and the rep. said that i had 2 year contract that started in August 2003 and that I only had been with that contract less than 20 months, and that you can only upgrade any phone if you completed 20 monts or more and I didnt know what to do and I didnt say anything so the rep. said if i wnated to purchase it at the regular price, i asked how much was it and she said $249.99, so i said NO WAY and left with my hands empy and very very very pissed. So my son is still very dissapointed and pissed, and he has to either pay $50.00 for the insurance so he can wait 2 weeks for a new phone for the same price as the one he has now ( he has a Nokia 3300, just like i did) or wait till March so he completes 20 monts and he can have the option of buying the Motorola V551 for $149.99 and wait for 2 weeks for the rebate to come.
I would like someone to give me an explanation so i can have my mind clear and thanks in advance.
P.D.-Im aware that anyone that completed 1 of the 2 years of the contract could upgrade the phone because i did that in 2001, 2002 and 2003 with the nokias 5165, 3360, 8265 & 3300. Also when i log on to the cingular site, it informs that im elegible for and upgrade.

so, what's the price if you just buy it on-line instead of going to the store?
I'm a big Cingular fan, but one of the things I've been very critical with our b2b rep is that each channel has a different message; with AT&T coming in, its only blurred the picture more. For me, I have the following channels accessible:
1) 866 Cingular
2) Company owned retail locations
3) Retail Website
4) b2b account rep
5) b2b extranet
6) b2b '800' number
Its wild, but the $$ can vary greatly between the channels. what made matters more confusing is that my company is getting even cheaper prices to buy xATT devices and plans, as our discounts with them were better. They know they need to do business like big companies do, but they're a little slow on making it a reality...

I am confused. Were you trying to add your son to your plan (like add another line?) oir get him his own plan. It shoudl not matter how long you have had your phone or plan, they shoudl be able to add a line ANYTIME for a reduced price, not full. Thats really weird.

I have a good idea and this is what I did. My parents wanted a cell phone, so I added a line and I went to an online store and signed a new 1-year contract on the second line, got the moto v551 for $74.99. The website is at www.mobileplaza.com and all I did when I got the new phone was switch sim's because the phone was already activated. Note--plans $59.99 and over are required to get the 2nd line for $9.99, or just go with either the $39.99 or $49.99 national plans and get a 2nd line for $19.99. There might be someone who wants a 2nd line or something, or you could even use it.

My son has another account of his own, and i have a separate account, we dont have a family plan or anything with 2 or more lines, we have 2 phones with different accounts on the cingular network and both of the phones come in one bill because i pay them.

I went for a second try to another cingular kiosk and ask the rep in which time could i upgrade a phone and sign a contract again and she told me it was 3 monts before the contract expires. So im not asking anyone else and im waiting to April so i can upgrade his phone and that makes me learn my lesson...never sign to sell your soul to a big-time happening company or else you will be screwed and will have to pay $300.00 if you want to close the contract before it expires. But thanks guys a lot for your help!

Last night happend something very strange. I recived an e-mail from cinguar saying that they have a case open for me and to please call some 1-800 phone number. And then i get a mail letter from them, separate from the bill. They are billing me a month of service that I already paid, but thats not the case, when i open the separete envolope from cingular, i recive 2 letters (in spanish) it says:
Changing your phone is as easy as 1-2-3.
Step 1: Select a phone.
they have a picture of the Lgc1300, one of the moto v220 and one of the moto v551
above every picture of each phone they have an info that says: LG LC1300 free, it says the regular price and that it includes a credit of $50.00, same with the moto v220 with a credit of $20.00 and the moto v551 free with no credit.
it details the features of each phone. above that it says: these offers are valid only with the renovation of a 2-year contract. There will not be any charge for the change of equipement.
Step 2: Visit the Sales and service center, or the nearest cingular kiosk.
Step 3: Hurry up, this offer expires in January 13, 2005.
Elegible numbres- it has all the phone numbers that i pay for service. visit us before january 13, 2005.
the other letter that came folded with the fist one says: its very simple, for being an exeptional client we want to give you more than our thanks. For that we have created an offer exclusively for you. we offer: LG.....Moto 220.....mtot 551.....same thing as the oher one only that its text only. For me its too good to be true, althoug i have already a moto v551, but my son, my mother and my wife dont, and you know what happened with my son and the phone. What is all this???
I guess a response would be good before January 13, 2005!

When i asked if i could upgrade my phone about 3 months ago they said i would have to wait at least 10 months at the begging of a new contract - talked to someone on the phone.
Anyways i didnt want to wait so i bought me and my girl the new v551 @ guess what retail price.
At least if my phone breaks cingurlar will replace it. And not some crappy website.
