Greetings all and Happy new Year! I recently purchased a Nokia 6230 and I'm enjoying its many features. I've been doing a lot of file transferring using the data cable and lately most of the files transferred to the phone are showing a folder icon beside them with a question mark in it. The file extension is a supported file (usually .3gp, .jpg and .gif) and the files are ok on my pc, but when I attempt to open them on my phone, it says its an unknown file type. This does not happen to mp3s. They upload fine. Can someone give me some advice as to how to fix this frustrating problem?
Thanks,
FoneFreke

Hi,
These files are not accesible sometimes with the default applications, if you see them in your message box under "beamed" or something similar then try saving them into another location. Now you better try using the application which could be a video player, or a music player or a picture viewer and search for them. It would indicate in your playlist if it's video/music player, or in the picture thumbnails/list of the pictures available.
Bye,

Thanks for your help.- The files are usually saved directly onto the MMC card and at first were randomly showing as corrupt- less often if saved to the phone memory. - I doubt that it's an application related problem, as the phone had no problem with any transfers when I first got the phone and played / displayed properly. Even jpg files are showing as unknown files with the .jpg extension now when they used to work fine. As the problem is still random, I'm not sure if it is the phone, the cable or my P.C..

Hi,
It's the problem with the phone, since the files play very well in the pc and when transferred it indicates that it's currupt, sometimes the player wouldn't have been assigned or have been unassigned them lately due to an installation of another software which plays the same type of files, and then uninstalled. The suggestion i could make is, try master resetting the phone to the factory settings after making a full backup of your Phone, using the Nokia PC suite. Mostly try formatting your internal disk and mmc card. So that you could be much certain about the error. Even i had a similar problem with my p800, it worked with mine. I'd first formatted the MSD card and then the internal disk, it was successful. Best Of Luck..!

And in the other hand, does your files compete with the compatible list. Such as for an example if mp3 audio it could only support a speed less than 128kbps or lesser. Just a tip.
