I just had verizon hook up my web service for both of my nokias.
I uploaded an midi file to a free server, and I put the direct link into the browser, and it came up as "406: Not Acceptable" and when I asked for details it said "Invalid Content Type" But the Nokia 3589i supports MIDIs!
Did I do something wrong? or is Verizon just greedy?

You need a WAP enabled web site. Phones don't understand HTTP.

Better yet. How do you disable the 406: Not acceptable thing? Can you do it through data cable?

Have you tried emailing the MIDI to your phone? I 've never mailed a ringtone, but I've emailed screen savers (JPG, GIF, and animated GIF) to my phone and was able to save them and use them.

Do you know anything about MIME format? I don't know much about it, but I think if you make sure the MIDI file on your website has the MIME type of "application/x-midi", your phone will understand it.
The other thing I noticed about your link is that when I click on it, it takes me to "http://www.topcities.com/" and not your ringtone. Maybe that's what happened to your phone.
