The MIDI-ringtones are easy to select as your ringtone, but when you press the menu button when a MP3 song is highlighted doesn't give you the option to select that song as your ringtone.
Say I for example want the "Callin' Out" mp3 song as my ringtone, how do I do that?
The problem could be that the ringtone is too long for the specified time allowed (30 seconds max) for a ringtone to play when your phone rings. Otherwise I don't know.
Consult your phone's manual, and if for some reasond you don't have a manual, goto hellomoto.co.za and download your phone's manual from there.

I tried mpTrim and trimmed the song down to 30 seconds, but it doesn't let me select it as my ringtone.
You will have to change the "fullness" of the ringtone. I read on another forum that someone else had that same problem, but they found something on Mobile Phone Tools (towards the bottom of the transfere mp3 ringtones screen) which they had to change from 100 to 79. They were then able to transfere and select their mp3 song as their ringtone.
Hope it works! Enjoy the New Year!

I don't know how to do that. I'm having problems with Phone Tools, it's initializing for AGES (in fact, it never stops initializing!), I don't know how to fix this. When I press for the Multimedia Studio, all that happens is that a baby-blue window appears (with nothing in it).
Oh, and I've got one more problem. When trying to play a game, the screen light turns itself off. It was not like this when I purchased the phone, so it's probably just some settings I've messed with. Problem is that I do not know how to undo this. Any suggestions?
The backlight could turn off as a reult of you having battery save on. De-activate battery save and see what happens. Otherwise go to the settings menu, then JAVA tools and look at the settings there. Try to see if you haven't deactivated or activated something there.
Your problem with the mobile phone tools software could be as a result of a bad connection. If this is not the case, try re-installing the software.
P.S Have you used the Mobile Phone Tools before with success?
that thing they quote un-quote changed from 100 - 79 is the songs bitrate. Most songs will play only from the bitrates of 56-96 96 being absolutley huge in size, but best in clarity. Try downloading Mp3-cutter should be able to use free, and cut your portion out how you want it and all and when you save it there is a area where you choose the bitrate. I will try to publish some kind of guide for you. In the mean time just locate and download mp3-cutter via google.
Sorry about the load of rubbish I was talking (even though it did help in the long run) about, I wasn't paying that much attention because I don't have the same phone as you!
All is good and well I finished the guide here it is(requires adobe acrobat reader to view) Click Here. Program can also be found here Click Here

Greetings.
I know this thread is a little old, but I thought I'd add my £0.012 (2 cents) worth, as I initially had some trouble getting the E398 to accept mp3s as ringtones. It would not come up as a selectable ringtone on the alert settings, nor could I set it as a ringtone from the mp3 player menu. The manual, of course had nothing useful to say on the subject. About the deepest it got was "it has ringtones".
Eventually, I tried moving it from the Transflash storage to the phone's own storage, and it solved the problem.
Now all I have to do is work out how to get rid of the god-awful T-Mobile switch-on and switch off greeting jingles...
