recently i was inquiring the same question...
motorola V3
well, i did not wait for 3 months for unlock code from t-mobile.
got data usb cable from radioshack and went to the cell-unlock.com.
you can download software and try it on your phone, whether it can be unlocked or not. then buy a credit for 1 unlock $25, use the software, back up the chip first and then unlock it. worked just fine. all procedure with downloading, installing soft and drivers took about 30 min per phone.
to compare, at mobile kengoroo office they asked $65 per phone.
one useful remark:
new razors V3 have 8.xx boot loader version. it makes them unable to use imei code to unblock. ones the software downgrades boot loader version to 7.xx then (i think) it can use imei code.
to verify your boot loader version, turn off the phone and press *, #, turn on buttons simultaniously.

I unlocked my v3 and my treo650 by using the tutorial at http://fasttutorial.com/motorolav3.htm
Lessons learned is you have to make sure you install the Windows drivers first.

And we shouldn't be discussing them here;-)
Try to get the code from your provider
Go to a local store with a smartclip
Use a remote unlocking service
Try to do it yourself following the sticky
No more needs to be said
