Hello, I'm a real newbie to phones and hope you can help me out. My phone carrier is AT&T Wireless in America, and was looking to get the Nokia 7600 which is not offered here. I was wondering if the phone would work with the GSM/GPRS bands that AT&T has, or would unlocking solve my problem. Thank you for your help!

AFAIK, the 7600 does not support the bands in America. Its a WCDMA but only works on teh 1800/1900 Mhz frequency. Sorry mayte, not possible

First: unlocking won't do anything. It has nothing to do which frequencies the phone can use.
Second: nope, won't work in the USA. The phone supports only GSM 900/1800, in the USA GSM 850/1900 is used (GSM 1900 mainly).
The only way would be by using it with UMTS (3G/WCDMA), but the network is quite bad everywhere in the world (from what I would say).

I contacted At&t and they said they use gsm bands 900/1800. Does that mean I can use it?
And what is WCDMA?

GSM 900/1800?
Can't be. In the USA only GSM 850/1900 are used.
Or do you live in any other country? "America" is a vague term.

No, I live in USA. I tried to ask at&t if the 7600 could work, but they said no even though they support GSM 900/1800. Do they just want me to buy a phone from them or does it really not work.

I really don't think the 7600 will work in the US coz its not a gsm tri-band.

I guess what they meant is that they support GSM 900/1800 in foreign countries.
In the USA definitivly GSM 850/1900 is used (GSM 1900 mainly).
