I've had my 7250i for six months without any problem, but in the last few weeks, the new voice message symbol in the top left hand corner is always showing there is a new message and when i call my voive mail there are no new messages, but the symbol will not go away, any advice, please.

Try calling yourself and leave a message. Reterive the message and delete it. That might make it go away.

Are you sure your SMS inbox isn't full? If it is, the message icon will flash all the time - try to delete a few old SMS messages from your inbox.

It may be a hardware fault in that the icon is shorted, as unlikely as that appears. Is it on even when you just switch on the phone, before it read the SIM and registered on the network?
Other things to try and trace the problem - if you use your SIM in another phone, is the new message icon on also? If you use someone else's SIM in this phone, is it on?

Try inserting another SIM, start the phone, wait a few minutes and than put in your own SIM.
This trick helped when the other special symbols of Nokia where activated and won't go away.

Dialing up your mailbox and listening to the messages does not make the 'new message' icon go away.
You have to go into the 'main menu' on your phone and then open up the 'messaging' icon (looks like an envelope), then click on the 'inbox' icon (it should say how many new messages you have by the icon)
Click on the first message and then hit back, do this to every message listed and it will clear the message log. The 'new message' symbol should disappear after opening all of the messages.
edit: Sorry, I thought you were using a Nokia 5300. my advice still might work on your phone, however, so it might be worth a try.
