Hi. I had the same problem with my phone. I replaced the camera unit which I purchased from mobyspares on e-bay. Result the camera is now working perfectly.

The problem causing the "white screen" and/or "preview error" is because of the flexi cable inside the joint of the SGH E700. It is a ribbon cable of very fine wiring. Usually, these ribbons are very durable.......unfortunately for us consumers the production of this phone has rendered it.........fragile.
One of the fine wires inside one of the four data ribbons has cracked, hence the "white screen". There is no way to repair it. It has to be replaced. Oh, and there is nothing wrong with the camera unit itself.
(Here is a test. As you close the top part of the flip phone, the screen will shut itself off about say 40-45 degrees? Just before it shuts off, activate camera mode -hold the right side button. You should beable to use the camera. This shows that the cracked wire in the ribbon has come into contact. Open the screen back up and u get the "white screen")
As before, it must be replaced. Problem is, the ribbon cable is a one-piece with the display screen . VERY EXPENSIVE. The whole Display needs to be replaced. Though the camera itself is separate.
Get the part and here is how to take it apart.
------------------------------------------------------
>Take off the battery
>Take out the SIM card
>Undo the four screws in the four corners of the back of the phone (was underneath the battery) -Note, these screws need specialised screwdrivers as they are nice star shaped holes..... (*), not + or -
>on either side of the phone, there are rubbery covers, take em out with a flat screw driver. Note, DONT RIP OFF THE HANDS FREE COVER OR YOU'LL BE SORRY.
>Use a fingernail and go around the edge of the phone where the join mark runs, the back of the phone is now simply a snap on. Don't worry, you'll not break the cover.
>OK, back cover is off. WARNING WARNING!! DO NOT TOUCH THE CIRCUIT BOARD UNDERNEATH IF YOU ARE NOT STATIC GROUNDED. you will FRY the CIRCUITS...very BAD. You can ground yourself by touching a metal shell of some random machine that is grounded to the mains. (or you can stick your finger into the mains ground if you wish, don't recommed it though).
>Put aside the two side button covers.
>There should be a brown/orange ribbon running along the right side of the phone (looking at the back) Use a fingernail to prise it away from the circut board.
>remove circuit board and place it somewhere safe, and away from CARPET. white plain paper is good
>next to the ribbon stuck to the shell is a black paper/crepe cover. remove it with a Stanley knife CAREFULLY if you still want to replace it.
>flip phone and look at the front of the phone.
>flip the phone open.
>(May need two people for this, and the Stanley) on the right side of the phone, There will be a gap where the flip joint begins. right above the right soft key. Pull the back cover of the phone away from the top screen part of the phone. BE CAREFUL if the plastic breaks, you are stuffed.

|..====...| rightward and the top partof the
phone left to widen
the gap to about... 5-7mm
>then there should be a silver ring, it is a large pin. use the Stanley and carefully push it into the center and then the display should just lift away.
CAREFUL, the ribbon cable must be removed carefully.
>now there should be two rubber covers on the display part of the flip phone. remove and unscrew the two screws underneath.
>again, use your fingernails to prise open the phone's display cover.
>replace the display component, reverse instructions and you are done.

I have a similar problem, though.
My SGH-E700 display seems to be "overlapping" itself, ie. the lower part being shown over the upper part and vice versa. the small screen works perfectly though.
is there any way to fix this, or do i have to try my luck with a new display unit?
