It should not be the end of the world. Just try to uninstall any drivers that have been installed.
I have had lots of problems with the Nokia DKU-5 cable. The problem occurs on multiple computers and I have tried two different cable (these are real Nokia cables) slightly different versions.
I can install the cable drivers (this is not a simple cable - it is in fact a USB to serial converter with electronics in it). Sometimes I can get the cable to work and I can use the syconronisation functions or transfer files. I have even had it work as a modem.
When I unplug the cable and phone, then come back a couple of days later to use it I find it will not connect to the phone.
Sometimes if I use the "file browser" function it can create a connection to the phone, but most times I have to reinstall the cable.
I am some what tempted to use a non-Nokia cable that I have tried briefly, but not enough to really know if it suffers from the same problems.
I suspect there is an issue with the drivers or the way the cable recreates the connection to the phone. Judging by the number of similar entries on forums I think Nokia has a big problem with this.

What operating system are you using? If it is Windows XP, then go to the Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager. Choose the cable from the tree listing of your hardware and select update driver. Choose the manual options ("select from a list"). You should see your Nokia driver listed. Select it and you should be good to go.
You can also try downloading the latest drivers from Nokia's site and installing them.
I have also had issues with the phone sometimes connecting and sometimes not, although it seems to be better if I reboot the phone when switching from using it as a modem and with the PC Suite application.
Good luck!

That is, as obvious, because your phone isn't compatible.
You can only use midi-files and amr-files as ringtones.
They can be uploaded with ringtone editor or the file manager.

Ok I figured it out. Now what is happening is that whenever i disconnect the phone to leave the house and come back and connect it the PC suite is showing that it is connected but the activity is not taking place as when i had it connected before. I dont even see a disconnect button anywhere on the PC suite. how would i be able to connect and disconnect and reconnect and still be able to use the stuff properly without restarting my PC all the time?
