I've just gotten my V551 and really would like to use Bluetooth to transfer files (pics, mp3 etc ...) between my PC and the phone. my notebook has Bluetooth, I can connect the phone to the notebook and I understand that I need the moblie tools SW in order to transfer files.
But, do I really need the USB/Bluetooth data cable in order to transfer files? or will this wokr just via the native Bluetoot in my notebook.
Have been scrolling this forum for a couple hours last night but could not find the answer to this question.

You wouldn't need any other bt dongle if your laptop has bt built-in. What is your problem? What errors do you have?

problem: XP (Pro, SP2) recognizes the phone via Bluettoth (COM7 for dialup) but the motorola SW can't find the phone. when I choose Bluetooth as the connection type, it sits on the "detection" screen forever and can't find the phone (it does let me choose V551 from the list).
I am running 3.11h so I guess I have to look to update (but am behind firewall) ...

Have you tried to turn it off and on while the clock is spinning?

yup, done that, upgraded SW to 3.19e1 ... and no change ... I've also disabled the MS Enumerator as suggested in another thread ...
