ok, we need a sticky.
to make an mp3 ringtone for my vx 7000, do I need to just change the file ending of an existing mp3, or do I NEED to convert the whole song to a midi?
If i need to convert it, what free, easy to use program should i use?

There should be some free mp3 converting software online. Do a google search or something.
As far as changing the file extention it worked for me. I just change the .mid extention to mp3. Use properties plus, another thing you can search for on google. I was able to fit 50 ringtones on the 7000

First of all you need to cut the song to about 30 seconds. You will need some kind of special software for this. Sony offers a free download of Sound Forge 7 that will edit sound.
After you cut the clip, you need to bump the volume as loud as you can in the software without distorting the sound. This will help make up for the lower volume of the 'mono' file which you will save it as later.
You then need to save the clip as a MONO 32K to 64K MP3 file. Use a setting like 22,050hz as the audio quality. The larger the bitrate the fewer files will fit on your phone so use 32k if the quality is ok for you. Besure that there are no spaces in the file name so it is something like 'mysong'.
After you save the file as the MONO MP3 format, you will need to change the MP3 extension to MID. This is very easily done by opening the "My Documents" folder, selecting "Tools" from the menu, and selecting the "View" tab. Scroll down until you see 'Hide Extensions For Known File Types' and uncheck this box. You will now see your files in the format of mysong.mp3. Simply click the name 2 times slowly and it will highlight. Delete the .mp3 part and replace it by typing in .mid.
You can now email this clip to your phone by sending it as an attachment to yournumber@vzwpix.com.
Your phone will receive a PIX Message with the MP3 attached. You then open the message, the sound should play. Then press the right soft button and select 'save sound' and it will be placed in your Get It Now - Tunes and Tones folder.
Hope that does the trick for you.
