Migration is NOT easy as it is being advertised!
I ordered 4 phones as Christmas gifts and was assured delivery by the 24th. I was migrating these lines from ATnT to Cingular. The phones arrived December 28th!
I have tried, unsuccessfully, to activate my phones and have been on hold, collectively over five hours. (I am actually on hold as I write this!)
I have called several different numbers and have been transfered around. The migration department says my lines have not migrated yet, other representitives have said just power up the phones and they should work (as if I don't do that ever time I call). Other say, don't worry, I will make sure to solve this for you... I am placed on hold then disconnected after waiting over 20 minutes!
I also get an error message saying "sim card not registered".
So beware and be prepared to spend alot of time trying to get migrated!
If anyone has a "secret" phone number or inside trick to accomplish this feat easier, email me back...
I will probably STILL be on hold!

Did you migrate through a local dealer? My new phone was transferred to Cingular before I walked out of the store. If you bought the phones from a Cingular dealer anywhere, they ought to be able to fix this for you in minutes. If you bought them mailorder and the dealer is not interested in helping you, try going to a local Cingular dealer and asking politely for some help. It really shouldn't be that hard. Good luck.

After ANOTHER hour and a half today I finally got connected!
I tried to purchased my phones online thru Cingular and ended up having to call them direct since I was moving so many phones. It was a hectic time before the Holidays and I THOUGHT I would be saving time having the phones mailed to me.
They phones were supposed to be migratred when I received them and all I was suppose to do is power them up the and they would connect to the network, register themselves and be ready to use immediately.
I was told today, after waitiing forever, that my phones were still being migrated (more than 3 weeks later). I would not hang up until this was resolved. After another 64 minutes on hold, the rep found the solutions department number who migrated each one of my lines, one by one. By the way, this last rep was great, she stayed on the line with me to make sure I did not get cut off again and that I resolved my problem. I had to go over the rate plans all over again (this was originally done thru Cingular when I ordered the phones) for each phone.
I have found other websites with MANY others that had similiar problems with Migrations. Maybe going in person and NOT leaving until you are connected is the way to go... because my way of "convenience" was not!
Hopefully Cingular will be much better than this nightmarish experience with them

I had problems migrating too. It finally worked, but I had to basically wait forever. It took about a week after I activated my Cingular account. I hope it does not mess with my monthly bill.

I feel bad you had difficulty. I migrated my sister in law from her own AT&T account to her father's Cingular account on a family talk plan in fall. No issues whatsoever - 30 minutes to port in Alabama.

I attempted to migrate from the first day of the blue and orange merger via the webpate link on the ATTWS site, but was never able to use the weblink. On Dec-30 I tried and was suscessfull, my order was processed on 01-03 and i got the phone on 01-05. I followed the instructions on the activation sheet, and it took less than one minute for the rep to migrate my ATTWS number to my new cingular phone. It took her 29 more minutes to setup on cingular account, plan. I was able to go online and stup mycingular.com after the call. My account information updated online on 01-07. I've already gotten a Cingular invoice ( for 2 days of use). I had expected the migration process to be a total pain and was expecting the worse - however it was extremely painless for me.

I think it's worth it for some people who keep getting problems with the signal strength and coverage... the new 64k sims might be very and very helpful....
however..i'd never switch to cingular.....
