Hii all!!!

I has just bought Nokia 6630 provided by VODAFONE company.
Now I am using Simcard (WCDMA) provived by Vodafone, and I can use this Mobile in some countries (THAILAND, JAPANESE, ...) without replacing Simcard. But it cannot in my country. When go back to my country, I need to change another Simcard (only GSM 900 in my country)...

When I come to Vodafone Shop in Japan, they said that this Mobile has been set to use only Vodafone Simcard and i cannot replace by simcard of another company... icon_ninja.gif icon_ninja.gif

I think we can do that, because Vodafone cannot change Software of Nokia... But I dont know how to do with my Mobile??? icon_angel.gif icon_angel.gif

Thanks for Any idea!!!

It's called network lock, so only Vodafone SIM cards can be used.

What I don't get: why can't you use it in your country where you bought it (as I asume).

And normally the SIM cards should work with WCDMA and GSM.
But you might to have to switch between WCDMA and GSM manually.

A the thing about Japan... somehow I think it's strange they've got no GSM icon_biggrin.gif

If the country you wanna visit has a WCDMa network and Vodafone has a roaming contract with them it should work in their WCDMA network, otherwise you really would need a new SIM card (PrePaid would do the job good).

Unlocking is a grey area. I myself am not a friend of it and don't do it or support it. Sorry.

You should ask the guys in the Vodafone shop about roaming. Japan is such a special case in point of phones... and you're the first user from Japan (BTW: my favorite country) I've met icon_biggrin.gif

I think "Unlock" is a big topic mobile member... I know that Vodafone has roaming in many country but my visited country is not.
About require guide from vodafone shop, i think they will never do it because it will make loss for them. This is the reason why I launch my problem by internet. icon_frown.gif icon_frown.gif

I'm from the Philippines and currently using 6600 and planning to replace it with 6630 from Japan (buying it through my cousin in Japan) because my cousin says it's so cheap there. Will i able to use it in the Philippines with prepaid simcard without any hustle?

I've been longing to have this phone since i saw it on Nokia site but some 6630 review say that it has so many problems. Should i risk replacing my 3 months old 6600 with 6630 from Japan? Is Nokia's warranty international in case i encountered some problems? Please help me on this. Thanks!

Hi there. I think I could answer all of your questions, so sitback and read:

1. Nokia 6630 price. Your cousin is correct, this unit I got is only Y9,800 which in peso would be about P5,000 or less than US$100. Other shops I think is selling it for Y8,000 (do the math icon_wink.gif ). However, I'm not sure if your cousin knows this...to get this unit, he has to sign in for a 1 yr or 2 yrs contract and that is post paid. Which means, even if he sends you the unit, he has to pay for whatever package plan he gets (Y3,000/mo is the cheapest i guess) for a yr or 2 without having a fone to use bcuz its already wid u. But since it seems like you are too eager to have it soon, here's what I suggest. If your cousin has the 1st 3G fone offered by Vodafone, which is the Sanyo V801SA, he can try putting his new USIM card (upgraded ver of SIM they say) to that old fone. If that works, then ur wish is granted. BUT...

2. Using the unit in the Philippines. Up until now since I got my 6630 3 weeks ago, I'm still searching for answer on how to 'unlock' my fone (SIM restriction OFF or making it openline as we call it). Vodafone has locked all their USIM type units to only work within their network. There are 2 ways to do it, I was told. One is via software by inputting a series of codes. I got my free code from another forum on the net, unfortunately it did not unlock it. The sender thinks vodafone embedded the lock from the load booter w/c is unusual perhaps. So I'm not even sure if my last option will work - which is via cable PKD-1. Since ur there in pinas and I know we have plenty of geeks doing these stuff, can u chk it out? I'll try mine when I go back there mid of march. Once the unit is unlocked, u should have no problem putting ur SIM, whether prepaid or post!

3. A fone bought from Japan via vodafone and brought to the phils. will void its warranty. Unlocking it either here or there will also void it! But do u really care, all our Nokias there bought from greenhills has no warranty anyway icon_biggrin.gif

4. What sort of problems have u heard, I have to watch out for them. So far, I'm having fun with my unit. I've already loaded it with a lot of applns, from themes to games to ringing tones, u name it. Plus the camera is superb... its 1.3mega pixels, 1st of Nokia (units here though already are 2mp). My unit hangs sometimes but I think its bcuz it has too many apps in there. No worries for me though, i just switch it off and back on! I don want to complain... i've been longing for a nokia fone here since 2 yrs ago icon_smile.gif

Well, that's about it. U dsyd!

Hi there. I guess we're on the same boat...i'm a gaijin too and has same unit as you are via vodafone. Some forums like the link below offer free 'unlocking' of fones. I have tried mine but unfortunately the free codes I got didn't work. Perhaps you can try yours so we can share notes in the future. I was the first that failed according to the techguy. I want you to try yours so we can isolate whether it is bcuz the problem is 'vodafone japan' specific. here's the link:

goodluck and do let me know okay.
