I just purchased MPx220 (Cingular) from Amazon.com. Some customers there wrote that the phone comes unlocked, but I am not sure anymore. I stuck my AT&T SIM card in the phone and the screen says:
Network PUK
This phone only accepts SIMs from specific networks and has been blocked. Contact your customer service center for the unblock code.
Then there is a space for:
Unblock code:
New PIN:
Confirm New PIN:
I called the customer service, spent several hours with AT&T, Cingular, both and back again... you all can imagine the story... the final words after trying different PUK codes, was that I need a new, Cingular SIM card and change plans... which I just don't want to do... I have this excellent all-you-can eat plan with AT&T, for another 1.5 year.
Does anybody know how I can solve this PUK code mystery? Does it mean the phone is locked and I need the subsidy code there? All advice appreciated, or I will need to return the phone, but I just love that toy.
Thanks
Suzanna

If Amazon stated that the phone is unlock to any gsm sim chip and it is not, I would return it for another or get your money back.
You will mostly like have to pay for a subsidery code to have your phone unlock. I would not want to pay any extra for a phone that was suppose to be unlock.

Thanks. I returned the phone. Nothing worked... I purchased the subsidy code and with all support team help I got from them, the phone was unlockable. So it's back on Amazon.

Of course I tried Cingular first... they did not give me the info, because I am not a Cingular customer. Even though AT&T (me) and Cingular mergerd, in their eyes, I am not their customer and therefore they cannot help me.

Hi. Sounds like you were/are in the precisely the same boats I am. Would you tell me please, whatever happened with your Motorola MPX220 problems and the PUK issues ? I have one now for 6-weeks and have not made 1 phone call yet. I have taken it to 2 un-lock gurus and ZIP, nothing. Maybe I can use the phone for a shark fishing lure ?? I'd be eternally greatful for a hint from someone who can help.......... Thanks Plenty, Ken---Antigua, W. Indies

I just gave up after tons of different tries of everything possible... sent the phone back to Amazon, and now using my old lovely Nokia 6590, that I like so much because of it has a radio.
Good luck to you! Let us know if you made it.

you have to call customer care 8662934634 to get your PUK ovveride...
this is not the same as a subsidy code... it is the link in the algorythm used for sim identification...
its not a big deal... dont enter any numbers until you call customer care or you will fry the sim after 10 unsuccessful attempts!!
