OK, so transfering data via the DCU-11 FROM my T610 TO my PC is impossible. Got it.
However, this post mentions the ability to send FROM the PC TO the T610 (and other phones). Can someone help me with transfering data (e.g. ring tones, pictures) TO my T610 FROM my PC using the DCU-11 USB data cable? I can sync with Oulook no problem using the XTNDConnect software. My phone does not show up in my Explorer in WinXP Pro as a network device or another drive or ANYTHING? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

Do you have Mobile Phone Monitor, or SendFile installed? Coz with a DC, you'll need a program to get things working... You can get these here: http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/en/software.htm

Yor welcome. But Bluetooth - now that I've rethought it - isn't THAT expensive, and has it's advantages, plus you've got a T68i But that depends of da prizes over there...

I just got my New Sony T-610, and I love it. Also after reading these forums....I have purchased a BlueTooth USB Adapter for my Home PC for transfering Files, Rings, Pics ETC. and I have no problems at all. Transfer rates are fast and easy.
I purchased a Belkin BlueTooth USB Adapter from Fry's Electronics for 39.99 <------GREAT price!
I was surprised at the low price of this Adapter, I have seen other IDRA adapters going for the same price. BLUETOOTH ='s Longer conectivity Range!

Okay, I have read through this thread and several of the previous ones covering the same topic. At the risk of rehashing the topic, I have a clarification question, as well as a few sub-questions.
First, I have a SE T616 (yes, brand-new to it) on AT&T in the US, currently connected on a USB DCU-11 to a Win98 system (yes, some of us are still slogging on Win98).
Now, first the clarification question. There is a similar thread on myt610's forums, in which it is claimed that pics can in fact be transferred from mobile to PC via USB by using Handset Manager, from Mobile Action. And this is what the software manufacturer claims as well. So. Has anyone had any luck with this software? Even the relevant topic aside, it does seem like a pretty neat and comprehensive piece of software (even though pieces of it can be accomplished by various programs from SE for free). Any experience?
Now, sub questions. Why, one asks, doesn't this poor newbie just go get a BT dongle and be done with it? AH-HA! Well, I thought I would do that too (even before getting the USB). But, as far as I can find, all BT dongles only support Win98SE and no earlier, and as I noted I only have Win98. Does anyone know of a dongle that can run on Win98? That would, quite frankly, be my ideal choice - BT is one of the main reasons I chose the 616, and as amply covered in this thread, the most straightforward, easiest, and coolest too.
I guess the other question would be any similar advice on an IR adapter. I guess, if it comes down to it, I will get an IR, for the pic and file management aspect. But, I must admit, I don't mind the cable (given no BT possibilities) - and IR still seems very "cable-like" to me because I still have to sit here with the phone aligned with the adapter and all (versus the roaming of BT).
Anyway, thanks in advance. I have tried to look through all other threads to answer these questions, and other sites. All info is appreciated. Glad I found this site!

Ya, you actually force me to rethink this, and yor right about establishing a mobile to PC multimedia connection via DC, but I'm not sure if you can get this thing working at all... I've tried this Handset Manager, and it didn't even detect the whole damn thing. So if at last someone could (but most probably we're talking of a company here) make various Handset Manager like programs ABSOLUTELY specialized to a certain phone model, than this undetection issue wouldn't be a problem in 70 % of cases (I'm not in the 70 %). But since this isn't the case today, DC is still quite a hump for simple souls like me, who would only like to connect the phone without any screwdrivers or chewing thru the internet and all that. You can give a nice X to user friendliness.
And, now that I HAVE looked to the myt610 forum, well... not to convincing, I haven't even found that topic you've talked of, and all the moderators are sure that phone to PC via DC isn't possible (quite interesting, ProtoMan seems to have a strange signature with an IP adress, and some sort of vnet.hu(ngary)... Hmm, strange ). But since it can get simple data like contactz to yor computer, why couldn't it send anything else to the PC??? Actually it's possible if you make yor own tricky porgram, coz as I've said earlier, there's no program such as that on the net. It's actually the same as with some IR fellas, that they simply can't get games to their mobiles, coz .mpn is considered as an invalid extension. The case is the same with DC. SO, it differs on the PROGRAM (I'm not shouting, just illuminating, so please dun get nervous (have experienced this at mophun.com forum)), MOBILE FIRMWARE, DATA CABLE MODEL, PC and its OPERATIONAL SYSTEM. Chances are quite low to get this phone to PC thing working without being a pro in everything huh? So let's point this out, and now I promise I won't repeat myself in this simple reply anymore: DC can't transfer multimedia from phone to PC in most cases coz the customer doesn't or simply doesn't want to shred his/her PC or phone to pieces or make his/her own program just to get a sluggish phone to PC connection. It's easier to go wireless. Especially with BT, which is mostly considered the easiest stuff to install. That was question no 1. of yorz.
Let's see those sub-questions:
Just becoz BT is better. ANd we can't do anything about yor OS problem coz only IR and DC work on win98 (I have the same OS on my older machine from which I'm typing this...). Now why might win98 be SE??? Becoz it supports newer stuff like BT that have been more widely (???) used at that time (at least within the upper 10000). So, unless you want to crack yor OS source code and make illegal (meaning, yo won't get Microsoft support anymore (hehe)) augmentations to it, you can't do anything with a BT dongle. Try to upgrade yor OS by cheaper means, coz if you want to stay legal, then buying an original WinXP might cost double as much as a BT dongle itself.
As you see, IR also isn't that new (10 years old tech), so of corz it has its limitations against a newer tech such as BT... But it is the most widely used data transfer in mid-lower to upper-end phones, thus giving you the option to have 10 phone switch in a year, with yor IR compatible with 90 % of them, and it's not as expensive (most of the times) as a BT.
Conclusion: let DC rest in peace man! The fellow's trying to get buried
here!!

Hello from a fresh newbie
Bought the DCU-11 cable and struggled mildly tracking down all
of the connectivity software that really should have been on the disk
or at least TRULY provided at the SE website
Spent the past two days tweaking the R4aPACKAGE (XTND),
Backup, SE Image and Sendfile programs - when I can get
the SE T316 actually connected to my PC for long enough...
Just returned from EBAY where I purchased an IrDa Adapter.
Question is:
What software am I going to need to track down now ??
What I want to do does not seem THAT difficult nor illegal.
I want to backup my images, messages, phonebook, ringtones
and games onto my PC and be able to upload back if required...
I won't even go into trying to convert MP3 to WAV to MIDI.
My wife thinks I have gone over the edge
Thanks...
BTW:
Great website can't properly address the help you all have provided...
But that happened years ago...
