hey all

i'm kinda new to this datacable & mobile phone stuff... and yes, i got my t310 this week, and bought a data cable as well. in fact, they gave me a cable for the t610 in the shop, they said it's gonna work just fine. well it didn't.

let me elaborate my problem here, sorry for those who feel bad about these posts icon_smile.gif

i brought back the cable, plugged it in. Immediately, the USB thing popped up, that something had been found, even though i didn't connect the phone (i have much more experience in digital cameras, with those things only happen if you connect them then turn them on...) Anyway, i installed the driver, installed the SE Image Editor, and i was a happy man.

Right up to the point where i discovered, that the SW says: No T310/blabla found.

Whaddaphukk?!?!

First i thought there was something with the cable. So i took it back, asked the guy about this (he couldn't be of any help, as i imagined) and said they would get me a proper cable. Well, i went to pick it up today, and the SAME FRIKKIN THING happens all the time. The drivers install without any problems, along the software, but my phone just cannot be found. Right now my hands are shaking, and i wanna kill somebody...

Does any of you people know what's up with this?! I thought i could manage solving a problem like this, but there you go.

Oh another thing. There's a little switch on the small box on the cable, and if my phone's plugged into the usb port, and i flip the switch, it starts to charge the phone's battery. Does this mean ANYTHING? I mean, what the hell can be the problem here?! The phone seems to be ok (though one can never be sure, right?), this is now the second cable i'm using (using, pfahhhh), and i'm going slightly mad.

if you have suggestions, please email me, i'll try to check back here as well, but i have no internet connection at home (yet).

thanks, and sorry for the long post, but i hope you understand.

Other than the switch you were talking about, I'm experiencing the same problem with my z500a and the usb data cable I bought from factorydirectcellular. I install the cable as directed and Windows XP discovers it with no problems. However, I plug my phone in and neither Windows nor any of the Sony or other suggested applications can see my phone. The phone is getting power off the USB and charging, but nothing will communicate with it at all.... it's very frustrating..

To all of you out there wondering "why the f*ck didnt i jus spend the extra cash and get a BT dongle???? or Ir Adapter..".
Well, i felt EXACTLY the same way!! When i connected my DC via usb, the computer would automatically recognize it (good ol winxp icon_biggrin.gif), except i had the same problem that the computer would not recognize the phone.

***IMPORTANT**** Make sure youve done the following:

-Installed the necessary software either from CD or www.sonyericsson.com, most importantly Phone Monitor (check your control panel to make sure you have this one!!!!!!!! if not, install it right away.)

-Heres the part that got me. If you're using a firewall, DISABLE it temporarily. (For those using winxp SP2 DISABLE the Windows Firewall as well)
If you dont know how to disable your firewall, check your manufacturer's website. Also, POP-UP/Spam Blockers should be disabled too.

THAT SHOULD HELP!!!! (I got the info from a sony rep. who emailed me after i BOMBARDED Them with emails about the DCU11!!! LOL)

So, if anyones still having a problem, let me know, i really hope this helps
BTW, if you interested in uploading ringtones, games, sounds, etc.. to your phone, you must get SendFile (not from se.com).
Get SendFile

Cheers to all

I bought the DCU-11 data cable for my s710a camera phone hoping to be able to download pictures to my PC. Then I find that, although the drivers supplied on the installation disk install fine under Windows 98, the PC suite on the other CD only works on XP or Windows 2000 or ME.

However, here is the solution. It would appear that it is only the supplied version of Adobe Photoshop that is not compatible with Windows 98. Everything else is.

So:

1. Run the installation CD to install the drivers.

2. Put in the PC suite CD but close the autostart Sony Ericsson window, and just go to MyComputer, and right click the CD Icon to open it.

3. Open the INSTALL folder.

4. Then open each of the following folders in turn and click on the setup.exe file contained therein, and go through the installation wizard for each. If you get an error indicating that there are missing components and inviting you to remove or repair, check "repair" and continue.

The folders to do this for are:

MOBILE PHONE MONITOR
CAPABILITY MANAGER
FILE MANAGER
IMAGE EDITOR
and SYNC STATION

After each, the operating system may have to restart to digest the new software.

The "remove" or "repair" error window should appear at least once, but if it doesn't, try installing, say, FILE MANAGER again.

It seems that invoking the "repair" procedure succeeds to install the needed items under Windows 98 that the provided Sony Ericsson start-up script won't do.

Then switch off the computer and plug in the DCU-11 cable and restart. You will get the message "Windows has detected new hardware and is installing drivers"

Then you get the "My Phones" icon on the desktop.

Click on that and a folder will open with the icon "not connected" in it.

Now plug the cable into the phone and switch on the phone.

You may have to close the "MyPhones" folder window and click on the MyPhones desktop icon again. The folder window will open up, and after a little delay, the "not connected" window should burst into life and give you a folder showing all the internal memories, memory stick etc of the phone.

Camera pictures are contained in some sub-sub directory of the memory stick and should be copied to a PC folder using "copy" and "paste" before attempting to view the pictures, which are in .jpg format.

You now have gotten your camera pictures from your phone to your PC and you're in business. Use Microsoft Photo Editor or some other image manipulation program to play with the pictures. You can open them with Internet Explorer too.

I just bought a DCU-11 data cable for my z500a phone at the suggestion of my service provider. After taking 60+ pix of my best friend's wedding, I could not get them off of the phone. I can't find the driver that allows my pc to add the z500a hardware.

Sony Ericsson could care less about helping me. They have been NO HELP whatsoever. Now I'm stuck with no ix and a piece of junk that I can't use.

I only wish I had found you guy BEFORE I bought this piece of crap! icon_blink.gif

I managed to instal the DCU11 software on Windows XP and have it work with my S710a fine. My problem was I could instal the software on Windows 98. I posted the solution to that above.

What I found with XP was you have to instal the drivers first using the first CD supplied, with the cable not connected to USB. Then you connect the cable and restart Windows XP. Then you connect the cable and windows XP recognizes new hardware (Note I may have this wrong. You may have to connect the cable before you start XP. FFing Microsoft did it different on XP from previous OSs and I can never remember which way it is. So be prepared to try both ways.
After Windows recognizes new hardware, it takes you through the installation Wizard. So there are two installtion processes to go through.

Then you have instal the PC suite from the second CD supplies. When you have done that, you may restart Windows again.

Then plug in the phone to the cable, and SWITCH THE PHONE ON.

Open up the desktop Icon "My Phones". After a delay of perhaps a minute, due to the limited data rate, you should see the Icon in the Myphones folder go from "not connected" to telling you it can see the phone.

Hope this helps

I already know most of your views on this particular data cable. But im asking for help because the driver for this cable that i got off of ericssons website wont install into the place of usb device, just doesnt take it. Tried a few other drivers ive found on the net here and there and still cant seem to get it to work. Might just be a setting on my comp or something but im not entirely sure. So if you guys know anything that may help id aprreciate it. Im running windows 2k pro and have 2.0 usb ports.
