I think that this topic isn't that original, but somebody has to do the job no? Well, this one's for the newbies, and let's hope this is the 1st post yor looking at. I get to see more and more posts on this forum starting with "why can't I send...". Most of them are written by people who've just got their new phone, with a data cable, have tried to send pics from phone to PC, and it didn't work.
Let me explain this problem to you: I've got my T310 2 days earlier than I've registrated into this forum. Sure I was happy. My first phone + plus color display etc. Then I merrily went to the shop and bought a data cable saying "who needs those expensive IR adapters!!!". Well, when I got home, it turned out that I need "those expensive IR adapters". A month of misery waiting for a COM-port IR adapter, and switching it with the data cable, and now everything worx fine. Not that this problem is a money pit, but it can be quite annoying.
DO NOT BUY A DATA CABLE IF YOR INTO TAKING PICTURES!!!!
The reason is quite obvious: data cable was actually produced for older phones, when there was need only to synchronise, send SMS thru PC and all those stuff. And it worked coz it didn't reach the limit of the data cable, coz it can't get anything more complex into your PC than your Phone Book! If I'm right IrDA (Infrared Data Association) was founded in 1993 (thanx Zahn). Its advantages: can send data of any complexity 2-ways. In 1 word: this is the cheapest solution on synching a multimedia phone with your computer. Of course, there's the bluetooth, which has 10m of range instead of the IR's 100 cm (average) and can transmit thru obstacles. But is quite expensive. The choice is yorz. I just wanted to catch yor attention on this problem. So if anything else is possible, and/or you want taking pics and sending them to computer (nope, sending it via e-mail to yer computer is a quite stupid, and money-eating method).
For people who dun like to read (or have a phobia of letters ):
If you read page 7, you'll see that meanwhile, a new alternative for DC users is available, and they can send things two-way with a quite high percentage of success until their using equipment that the developers had been using in testing their program (it's on their webpage somewhere at: www.fma.xinium.com). This smart lil program enables to send anything via DC 2-way, so if you don't want to spend for a wireless solution, then go for it.

Exactly, as I've said, this topic won't see much of those "thought inspirating" debates, but it can be a useful warning sign for newbies. this stuff will save lotsa time and nerves in the future...

Probably I wasn't very straight forward, or something else, but I wasn't talking of the data cable's absolute incompatibility of sending multimedia at ALL. What I've said is that you can't send such from MOBILE TO PC. And when you have a phone with a camera, and don wanna pay for getting each pic on yor PC via e-mail, then you're in deep sh*t. And I really was in a similar situation, and this topic's for warning people of this.
