ok, here's my problem, see if anyone can help with this.
i have a v600 flexed to v620. i'm trying to install mpt on my laptop that runs win 98, it finds a new device and says the driver is loaded for it but mpt will not connect to my phone and my phone does not show up in the device manager, just unknown usb device. if i go under modems i can install a motorola mobile modem but it wants to run through com1. has anyone else used mpt on win 98 and know what i need to do to get my computer to recognize my phone?

I hope i'm wrong but i think it does not work with 98 has to be 98se. but you can try this, this was happen to me long ago and i hasd to do thisto make it work.
Delete all usb root hub, usb serial controller....also look in modem to see if you fone modem is there(with fone plug in) if it is deleted too then unplug fone. Now reboot and as laptop rebooting plug fone back in. Laptop will re install all the usb root hub ect.. go with ok and then it will see you fone. Atleast it work in my situation. Good luck

Two things-- I don't think that the 98 "classic" has the support for USB that you need, that's why the need for 98 "second edition" or version "c."
Also, you might well be able to run XP incompatible software (such as dos based apps) by setting the software compatibility for the product. You can do that by either using the help and support center (look up software compatibility), the wizard, or do it manually by creating a shortcut to the program, then right clicking the shortcut, going to properties, then going to compatibility and then put a check in the box for "run this program in compatibility mode" and chose the correct OS in the drop down box (such as 98/ME or even windows 95 if necessary). XP should "gear down" for the program when it is running (by putting the program in its own virtual machine). Mind you, that could possibly cause conflicts while other programs are running in the background (older programs do not share with others well at all), so if that's a problem then make sure nothing else is open while you use the program, then when you are done, close it and go back to whatever it is you would use XP for....
Also, if you must use 98 for your program, maybe you might want to look into using virtual pc or vmware to run 98 on a XP box. It's just safer.
I'll get off my soapbox now. ; ) Sorry to bother ya if you already knew that stuff, just trying to help.

old fool that didn't work, i keeps pulling up an unknown device, it won't even look at the usb ports for a modem. now this is starting to irritate me. i've installed the moto usb driver twice on my computer and it just says it's an unknown device.

I do have se for my computer, the programs i need to run on 98 just won't run on xp at all, no matter how i set up xp, i've tried. i've even had to contact the creator of the programs and they all tell me there is no way to run xp. put i really need my phone to hook up to this laptop. everytime i try to add a new modem it won't even look at the usb ports to add the modem to, it wants to use com1 or the printer port

Now this won't make any scent to you but what verson of MPT you start out with? if it is 3.0 then update to 3.19 then you need the 1.23 basic verson, i have cpouple people told me that so you might want to try.
