Yamaha SMAF Converter is the best and simplest in my opinion. You just have to make sure that the mp3 that you are going to convert is of the correct frequency and bit rate.

It can for sure, I have done it before and it worked perfectly on my phone (and others). When you download the zip file from the website there will be a manual-like pdf file and it will specific bitrate. I believe it is 8kbps adn 22100 Hz but I am just guessing from memory, I must be wrong. But is there in the zip file that you download

Here is a tutorial for ya. It wasn'twritten by e, so I take no credit for it.
Adapted from a post by Bumpon10 on another forum.
That said here is how to do it...
First things first > Download these utilities.
Sony Sound Forge 7.0
Soundforge 7 trial
Yamaha .WAV to SMAF Converter
You may have to register to download
1. Select a audio file you want to make into a ringtone.
2. Find a section that makes for a good loop and is NO MORE than 10 seconds. (10.15 seems to be the total maximum) for EasyStudio. If you intend to upload to your phone via WAP, then 20 seconds is about the maximum length.
3. Cut the sound out around it, leaving that 10 or 20 second clip.
4. Click save as, then under that dialog box click custom.
5. In this boxes below, change the items to:
Format - PCM uncompressed
Sample Rate (Hz) - 8.000
Bit Depth - 16
Channels - Mono
Then click ok, then save the file.
6. Drag your clip to Yamaha WAV to SMAF Converter, name the file then click ok, MAKE SURE IT IS NO MORE THAN 40.00KB FOR EASYSTUDIO. for WAP it should be about 120k or less.
7. Transfer the file to your phone via EasyGPRS, Tagtag.com or any other service you use but I recommend these two. Or you could set up a Wap server on your PC.
8. If all went well you should have a new custom ringer, enjoi!
On a more technical note, if you see the sound file is clipping (if you don't know what this is don't ask) turn the frequency down 1.5Db.
I hope this has helped everybody, and taught a few noobs make their own ringers.
Hope ya find this useful.

Guys, I have a question regarding these mmf files:
Can they be uploaded to a custom server and then downloaded with WAP?
I don't have the cable thingie but I found some mmf freebies on the internet and tried to download them but my E800 says "Unsupported content type"?
Does this mean mmf's can only be downloaded using IR or from the computer?
Thanks in advance,
Kenan

It depends on server configuration and whether it supports this filetype. You have to use some free wap hosting for this, there it shloud work.
