Anybody have handson experience with the extendable antennas that replace the stub antennas on the LG phones ? I've seen some that extend up to 4".

I bought an extendable antenna from EBay for my VX4500, and believe it or not it truly works to bring in a little extra signal in marginal areas when extended!
When not extended, it does stick out slightly farther than the original nub, but not badly so.
Overall performance is better than the original.
When I say extendable, I mean a retro-looking telescoping chrome antenna like you'd see on a transistor radio.
Mine extends from 1.25 to 2.5 inches.
If you turn the closed VX4500 around backwards, the combination of the retro antenna and the hands-free speaker looks like some kind of early 60's Soviet spy radio or something. -Da!

I just purchased a VX4500. It gets extraordinary reception in our mountainous area even when pulling only 2 "klicks".
I'm switching from an AT&T affiliate and a Nokia on which I had an extendable antenna that fits srider_Mt2k's description. It often gave me an extra "klick or two".
So, I'm wondering how difficult it would be to swap them out.
Is it an easy take apart on the LG4500.
advise is appreciated.

It might just be a matter of having the right adapter.
Your extendable antenna might have a specially threaded insert with threads for the antenna on one side and threads for the phone on the other.
If it doesn't work on your VX4500 right off, you can hit mall phone kiosks or the web to find the adapter, or it might just be easier to buy another extendable antenna.

The AT&T rep who installed the extendable antenna on my Nokia had to disassemble the phone.
Did you have to disassemble the LX4500 to install your
extendable?
Can you refer me to a url address for the extendable you purchased?
Thank you.

I found the antennas on E-bay.
Pretty good deal for $8 delilvered
whereas on their web site they start at $9.
They assured me everything I need
will come with it.

You don't have to take apart the 4500 to replace a ant. Kelly
