Hey to everyone, i already had a Serial data cable from my dad's Samsung V200, my brother and i both got phones yesterday, i got the E330, and he got the X480, the serial data cable works on both of their phones, but wont work on mine, does any one have a clue as to whether i wil need a newer cable or not?

Yes, you are right that you need another cable for your E330 since it is not compatible to V200 or X480. I found from Mobileaction that for V200 and X480, they have a cable MA8220 for them but for E330 they have another cable MA8230P. I also found that the compatible models to E330 are:
D488 / E100 / E330 / E700 / E708 / E800 / E808 / E820 / S500-S508 / X100-X108 / X460 / X600-X608 / X640 / E630
When you look for data cable, look for one that is compatible to any one of the above.

right ive given up on the usb cable idea and so i bought a serial cable. but do i need some kind of drivers or something for this cable? (i never use serial ones so i dont know anything about them!)
when i open the software and go into settings its doesn't say i can use the port the cable's plugged in. does this mean the cables a dud?
...so much hassle for one little phone..

You don't need a driver for serial cable. If you connect the cable to COM1, use COM1 in PIMS setup. If you use COM2, select COM2 in PIMS setup.
If it doesn't work, chances are you gotten the wrong cable. What cable did you get? Is it PCB133LBE?

Having spent a few hours trying to get a Samsung E330 to work with a USB cable, Easy Studio PIMS and File Manager and EasyLink 2, I was about to go and buy a serial cable then I thought lets try altering the Baud rate(Don't ask why). I set both the cable and the software to 115200, COM 3 and all worked well. I can now see the phonebook, messeges, files, etc. Ensure your cable is the usb to serial type.

I have a similar problem with my serial cable. I've tried to connect my X480 but it doesn't work. The cable is only described "E700". Is it a wrong cable for X480?

Yes, it is a wrong cable for X480. Compatible ones are:
D410-D418 / E300 / E310 / E600 / E710 / E715 / E850 / P100 / P400-P408 / S300-S307-S308 / V200-V206 / E600-E608 / X475 / X480 / E610
