...It is BOTH

I bought my RAZR last week and I am absolutey disappointed with the battery run time. I cannot get more than a day no matter what.
Like I said it is not a bad battery or phone so those of you who will think the problem will be fixed once the battery or the phone is replaced may keep hoping so because it will not change a thing.

This is how it is. Motorola made a great phone... It is very cool has the top of the line technology and features but it draines the battery. It sucks it up. Because it needs it.
And instead of coming up with a higher capacity battery to handle this type of current draw, they made it as small as possible to make the phone look cute or like a RAZR(the way they call it)
So when this two come together, we have nothing to do but to live with it.

Well, this is the fact. But if you ask if this is acceptable, I would say a big NO. In todays technology, it cannot be acceptable. In early 90's, when the cell phones first came out, LION battery technology didn't exist. Then it was necessary to carry extra battery to get through the day. And needless to say, batteries were big. But now I cannot carry an extra battery with me. This is ridiculous. Even if Motorola gives me a free one, I can't do it. I remember my Nokia 5110 phone(I bought in 1998) would go up to 7 days with a standard battery. And the battery was NiMH.

Then what am I going to do? I will use it for couple more weeks(I was told that I have up to 30 days to return the phone if I am dissatisfied) and if I can't get used to it, I will have to return it although I don't want it.

I am sure Motorola will eventually have to do something about it but it won't be in the next couple of weeks.

And the last thing; improper battery charging; first charge; second charge; overnight charge has nothing to do with it. LION battery doesn't need to be broken in. You can not control the charge time with the standard wall charger. Once the charge is done, the phone will cut the charge and you have nothing to do about it. You leaving the phone on charge for hours or overnight has abosulutely NOTHING to do with it. You can increase the charge time only if you use computerized LION charger that can change the charge rate(current). I have that kind of charger and I may try it but I bet you it will not change anything. So don't blame yourself that you may have not done the first or the second charge properly. And this is causing the problem. It has nothing to do with it.

Strange .... even using a bluetooth headset I've gotten more than 48 hours off a single charge with what I would consider medium to heavy talk time throughout my work day.

I've even started Friday morning with a full charge, a days use on Friday and light use over the weekend. Stilll have one bar showing on Monday morning with no charges since Friday morning. Go figure. Lucky I guess.

Okay I turned the bluetooth off today just to test it. Yes turning off BT helps alot. After 24 hours I still have enough charge maybe I get another day but I didn't talk much today. I guess total off 35-40 min.
I know that battery run time also depends on the signal strength. If the area has a strong signal, the phone will consume less power. I am wondering "gijohn" what is the average signal strength level on your display?
I will probably get another day but still not enough. I want my BT on all the time. What is the point if I am going to activate it after the phone ring icon_question.gif

Good question on signal strength as it relates to battery consumption. Never paid much attention to it since it's something I really have no control over. Buttttt ........ to answer your question - I just looked and I have 5 bars showing. Just for curiousity sake I'll check later this afternoon while running some errands and see if that changes.

5 bars make a difference. I looked at mine here at the office and I only see 2 bars icon_sad.gif Even right next to the window...

And you said you use BT all day. Does that mean your BT is on all the time? I don't mean the BT device itself; I mean if your phone transmission is on all the time? Because some people keep it off and then activate it once they need it. I don't consider that the BT is on. To me, if it is on, it must be ON all the time.

Thanks

I have a BT HS850 that I use all day plus I have UConnect (love it!) in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I haven't turned BT (on the phone) off in months (at least 3-4). I left/leave it on for a couple of reasons.
1) I wanted to see how quickly the BT headset would drain the battery and
2) It was a hassle (took me all of 20 seconds to scroll the menus <grin>) to keep turning it on or off before I got the headset. (have had the headset for only 2 months and use it only in my print shop)

So I leave it on all the time and when I get within 10 yards or so of my Jeep - the UConnect recognizes the phone and syncs up. Amazing.

I can't say I am not jeaolus of you. I am hoping that the answer how you get that much of stand by/talk time even with your BT on all the time is the signal strength that I apparently don't have in my area.
(And plus I have BT H500 not HS850. Don't think it makes any difference though)

Now, I am into the second day and have still 3 bars on the battery. But BT is off all the time and less than an hour talk so far. If I turn my BT on, I know I won't make it home.

This is very frustrating icon_ermm.gif

I tried to reduce(or even turn off) the backlight duration but couldn't do it. It is set to 5sec as default and this is the lowest I can go.

I am thinking what else I can do to reduce battery consumption but can't find it.

I'm assuming you read the the first message on page 3?? (of this topic)

Here are some tips for better battery life:
-Settings>Personalize>Screen Saver>Picture set to None *this should help ALOT*
-Settings>Initial Setup>display timeout 1min.
-Settings>Initial Setup>Backlight>Timer 20 seconds. This is the lowest setting on my phone, if there is a lower one go with that
-Settings>Personalize>Home Screen>Home Keys>Smart Key to Bluetooth Link. Set the Bluetooth setup menu to a softkey for faster access. Also turn the Bluetooth radio off. This lets you activate bluetooth without going through so many screens and deactivate it just as fast
-Settings>Audio>Ring Detail>Key Volume 0.

Absolutely YES gijohn. I read it and tried to change the settings as recommended but my hone doesn't have those settings. I guess it is because service providers are different. I wouldn't thing they could change the menu options but looks like they can do it.

For example when I scroll through my phone, this is what I see:

SETTINGS & TOOLS

1.Tools
2.Sound Settings
3.Airplane Mode
4.Display
5.System
6.Call Settings
7.Initial Setup
8.Connections

I don't have any "Personalize" or "Network Options" menu

How is your "Settings & Tools" sub menu?
