settings>network>network setup>speed
If you do not have the option you may need to edit
SEEM 0032_0001
offset 14 - bit 6: Settings > Network > Network Setup (1 on, 0 off)
and
offset 54 - bit 7: BLOCK ADVANCED MENUS: Settings > Network (1 on, 0 off - set to 0 to UNBLOCK advanced Network Menus)

I would love to do this, but I don't know how to edit those settings. I did look at a site that explained how to hack the v3, but this sounds like way more than I want to do (it begins by having you download 14 software applications). Is there a straight forward way to make these changes?

That was exactly what I needed. Thanks so much! Now we'll see if slowing down the network speed help.

Is there a way to charge the V3 battery without the phone? I have two batteries and it would be very handy to be able to do this.

I have taken all of your advice and the battery charge is lasting significantly longer. Can you tell me what is actually happening when I sen the network speed to slow? I don't notice any difference in the phones performance.

It is the network polling speed - when signal is lost the time between trying to reconnect
