PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE DOING THIS!!!!
after first posting this thread people are messing up their phones
so please read the instructions and follow them...
So everyone is tired of all the ringtones and wallpapers that come on their phones from the carrier or motorola. For those who don't know how to do it yet there are two ways. one is through mpt the other through p2k(which is the easiest way to do it but to also easiest way to screw up your phone). Lets start with wall papers.
mpt you can use bluetooth or a data cable
First find the file you want to get rid of there are .jpg and .gif under your wallpapers, i'll use moto.jpg for and example.
start mobile phone tools
now open notepad and leave it blank, click save as and name the file moto.jpg(or whatever file your are deleting)
and save it
-go back to mpt and open the multimedia applet making sure you leave it on the root folder screen.
on the left side of the applet find the moto.jpg file you just created and move it to drop in the root folder screen this will replace your phone's file with the 0kb file
either the moto.jpg will be deleted or it will say it's a corrupt file
and the phone will allow you to delete locked files. this also works with ringtones and videos.
now the easiest way is to use p2k.
to delete via p2k you must use the data cable
wallpapers are pretty easy as you just go into the images folder in the phone menu and select the files for deleting. the ringtones however you have to take a few extra steps.
make sure you set all your ring styles to silent, this will make sure you don't loose your loud detail which is a pain to get working again.
leave your phone on vibrate or silentselect files for deleting and include the two db files. restart the phone and your files will be gone. you will need to upload mp3's through mobile phone tools and select one as a ringer, now you can go back into your ring style details and set up all your sounds. anyone else have anything to add feel free, i may have left something out. again be careful deleting with p2k as you could mess up your phone if you do it wrong.

Those two files are created whenever you turn your phone back on after you delete them.

try deleting the 2 files again and do a master reset on phone.
You have deleted a file that was needed for phone to function. You may have to upload those files back to phone.

Hello, newbie to the forum here.
I just did the deleting of factory ringers and pictures by way of P2K on my V180, and i believe i am having the same problem. When i go into settings/audio, and then to the ringer mode details, and select change, it just spits me back to the settings menu.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

since people didn't follow instructions maybe what duce wrote in another thread will work here.
from duce...
If you are unable to fix the ring styles menu by selecting the vibrate style, than install a ringtone, and back to loud style option again. Try the next solution.
The major bug fix: (thx to adobostreak)
****FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH RINGSTYLE MENU***
1. Open PST Phone Programmer (either 6.7 or 6.9) not Multiflexflash.
2. Go to new, then select Feature file.
3. Push the button Read Phone at the top.
4. It will then connect to your phone and read the features and will display a new window with the current features
5. Select the phone type in bullet number 2. Click create.
6.In the new window scroll down, you will see Ring Styles and each menu item will have a box associated with it.
7. Make sure all the boxes reads 0 (zero) which is silent for all options and reminders should be set to off.
8. Push the Write to Phone at the top and then restart phone
9. You will have access to your ring style option again

ok, i did what you wrote word for word, and nothing changed, except the fact that now there are no ringers of any type. and it restricted all incoming and outgoing calls. thank you for your help, i greatly appreciate it
