hi to all!
i'm kilo from london and this is my first post on this forumn.
I'm having problems with my 6600. I read the specs of the 6600 on the nokia website and it states that it can play mp3 and acc audio files. And the problem is when my friend sent me an mp3 file via bluetooth, i opened it on my inbox and it says "Messange: Unknown file format!". I also want to set it as a ringtone but i cant even play it. Any help would be much appreciated!

Nokia never stated the 6600 supports mp3s and AACs. mp3s can be played with additional software like UltraMP3.
But it is "accidently" stated in the manual that they are supported.

wav-files do work on the 6600, even as ringtones.
But they should be re-encoded with the use IMA ADPCM codec at 22,050 kHz, 4 bit, mono.
They play without any problems and are most time smaller than the original mp3!
For ogg additional software is needed.
There are no working data cables for the 6600.
Nokia never made the 6600 to be connected to the computer by cable for uploading stuff.
Cables are for maintenance only.

just downloaded the OGGPlay free from the website and it works v.well with ogg files. But a lot less quality cause 6600 only supports sample rate of 16000hz, Mono.
I disagree on the wave files. (unless ur talking about a different kind of file) Wave files are a lot bigger than mp3. Wave files has more sound quality than mp3 files, well it depends how you encode it. But Ogg files are smaller are than Mp3 but they almost the same.
I've got a 32mb memory card on my 6600. Whats the highest memory can i put on my 6600? Is the 1gb memory card alright for my 6600? Cause i'm planning to put a lot of stuff on my phone.
Thanks,

I know, that wav-files are normally alot bigger than mp3s... uncompressed wav-files.
wav-files can be saved in many different qualities. And they can use different codecs. Like the IMA ADPCM codec... which is supported by the 6600 (and all other Symbian OS phones).
I've got the Imperial March (complete song) of Star Wars converted as ringtone for my Symbian phones (all I had ).
The original mp3s size was 3,98 MB.
The wavs size is 1,95 MB at the bitrate I said before.
The quality is very good for the phone.
If you use PC Suite to put stuff from your computer on your 6600, you can enable automatic conversion, so the mp3s will automatically re-encoded to wavs which are small and work without any problems.
I personal use Goldwave to convert mp3s to wavs because I can control how the wav-file will be encoded and in which quality.
1 GB should work, even the new 2 GBs.
But it depends on the manufacturer of the MMCs.
Not all do work. When you go to buy a card, ask the salesclerk if you can try the card first.
That way you can check if it really works.

nokia6600 does not have an in-built mp3 player... u have to download mp3 palyers... get the ultra mp3 player.. its cool ... and also to move the mp3 files from inbox u need to have a file-explorer... it will help u to move files similarly as ur windows explorer...

Ok Bjoern, I have a 6630 and am having major probs with the ringtones! I have maanged to send a WAV tone to the phone but it takes up most of the memory as its uncompressed. I've tried goldwave but the phone won't accept mpeg layer 3 or any of the others. Any suggestions on how to compress a wav file which the 6630 will accept?? thanks

Open the file, choose "Save as...", choose wav-format, choose the IMA ADPCM codec at 22,050 kHz, 4 bit, mono
This should do it.
