Hello Everyone!
This is my first post. I bought a new faceplate for my C1300 and I can NOT figure out how to get the old one off. I DID figure out I needed to remove the small rubber "bumpers" at the bottom of the screen and I removed those and took out the screws underneath, but the old one still won't budge. Anyone tried this so far? There are no instructions in the manual on how to do this, and I don't want to destroy the screen in the process. Any help you could give would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I have searched this thing over and there are no other screws holding it in that I can find. The new faceplate has a loop at the top that is solid and is going to have to replace the old one completely. This tells me that the entire screen is going to have come off to put the new one on again. I surely hope I don't damage something inside taking it apart! That's why I'm hoping someone out there has already done this and can tell me how to do it. I did find a site online that said it was REALLY simple to do, but it did not give instructions on how to do it. I HAVE to be missing something here. I just can't figure out what it is.
Thanks!

Hi! I wish that I could have found someone who had already done this, but I couldn't so I had to embark on this adventure alone. Well, sort of...I did find this:
http://www.mkwireless.com/lgx1fainin.html
They make it look SOOOOO easy though. Here's the problem: once you get the first "layer" (as they refer to it) off, there is a big plastic "pin" that serves as a hinge between the top and bottom of the phone. It is very similar to a watch pin. They make it look like you can just pry it gently out...but you can't. My gouged phone is a testament to that. Here is what I think the key is (and I accept no responsability for any damage that you do to your phone when you do this):
If you remove the bottom part of the phone too (4 screws behind the battery and one under the rubber plug beside of the antenna in the back) and look on the right side at the top you will see a glimpse of the pin. It is a translucent white plastic. I think that if you use a tool to press that in (toward the right) then it should release the pin. However I DID NOT DO IT THAT WAY. I tried, but I didn't know that the pin existed until I pried it apart the hard way. Before that I was afraid that perhaps that plastic was something that I shouldn't mess with. Or you can do as I did and pry to your heart's content. Just be aware that you will likely put a gouge in your phone, not to mention take EXTREME caution to be certain that you are always pointing your tool AWAY from your screen.
If you have gone this far and get the pin out, you will have to pry loose all of the protective black rubber stuff so that you can put it in the faceplate (unless yours comes with it...mine did not). Also be sure that you peel off the sticker that is under your mirror on the old faceplate...this protects the internal pieces from getting crap in them if the mirror falls off or something. I replaced the crappy plastic mirror that came with my new faceplate with the one from my original one, and it looks like you do have to do the heat gun/hair drying thing to avoid breaking the mirror.
I hope that this helps someone a) do this successfully or b) decide (as I pretty much have) that it's not worth the hassle and potential damage to your phone. If I hadn't already banged it up trying to do it I would have left it alone!

I did find the instructions with the pictures and got to the same point you did. I could not figure out how to get the crazy top part off my phone. I started to use a screwdriver to pry it out, but I realized I was going to damage my phone and so stopped. I also didn't know there was a pin in there that I was going to have to try to remove. It sounds like you could easily break the pin doing it the way they instruct you to. It's obvious to me that the phone is not meant to have the faceplate changed. The new ones I got also don't have the rubber on them, so yes, you'd have to take that off the old one. Same goes with the mirror. At this point, I'm going to call it quits with the faceplate change. It's just simply not worth it! Thank you SO much for your post! I have been wondering how I was gonna get this done. Now, I see that I'm better off not trying. I wonder if I took my phone, the new faceplate and the printed instructions to the Cingular Store, if they'd do it for me?!? (I know...BIG laugh!)
I'm ready for a new phone anyways. The Motorola MPX220 is lookin pretty cool! I think I'll go buy one of those! LOL!
Thanks again!
