I recently bought the Sony Ericsson Z500a, and I seen where it said that the phone was also a MP3 player, if it is, how do I use it, and how much does it cost. Also, can I take songs that I've got on my computer and transfer them to my phone for me to listen to like a walkman??
Thanks,
Tyler

Basically the phone is capable of playing mp3 files that you put on it either with a data cable, or using EDGE. The phone treats it just as a ringtone though. You can either listen to it from the speaker or use the one ear headphone that comes with it. Its pretty lame to use as an actual mp3 player, but it is cool to use mp3s as ringtones.

Its me again......if it treats it like a ringtone, then will it only play a part of the song, or will it play the whole song......also, where do I find one of those data cables?

It treats it like a ringtone in the sense that it is located in the same folder as them. If you go to it and hit play it will play the whole mp3. The data cable can be found all over the net or ebay. Just search for DCU-11

Well yes the Z500a can play MP3's but it doest have that much memory, I think it has 6mb or 8mb. Thats enough for a full song probably 2. I have the N6230 with 40mb and i can only fit 8 full songs.

You should read the rules. We cant give links unless their useful (as in legal) which what free ringtones isnt. And bad luck, that Mobiledia.com doesnt have an email account for their user. Sorry

There are in fact a couple of different methods by which you can play mp3 files stored on your phone, one of which is a built in "Media Player" application. The app is very rudimentary; it simply goes through the list of files you have in your Sounds folder and plays them one after the other. You can pause the song, advance forward and backward in the list of files, and adjust the sound with a simple equalizer tool. This is also one of only a couple of applications that will work with the phone closed. If you start the Media Player before closing the phone, the sounds will play much louder (like at about the same level as your ringtones), the file information will be displayed on the external display, and the volume may be adjusted using the +/- buttons on the side of the phone. The problem that keeps the z500a from doubling as your iPod is that it only has a maximum of about 7 MB of memory (and that's if you do some substantial tweaking). So even if you re-encode your favorite songs at a reasonably low bitrate of 64 kbs, an average 3 - 4 minute song would take up about 1.5 - 2.0 MB. This means that if you decide you don't want to take any pictures or videos, receive text messages or email, play games, have custom themes, etc., then you might be able to fit about 4 songs on your phone.

Ringtones are hard to find for free(good ones anyway) but you can get all the wall papers you can eat at zedge.com. free membership(shareware). If you have the data cable, you can upload all the sounds and music(mp3 file) you want

what's EDGE and how do you use it? i'm completely new to this kind of stuff. i want to do the same thing he asked for, transfer an mp3 file to my phone. i encoded a file to be only 54kb since it's only 30 seconds long to be used as a ringtone. since this is all i want to do, i don't want to spend that much money just for the cable. i'd rather pay a some data fees instead
