When you install PST did it install 6 driver total ? if not that is why it did not recognize your fone.
OK, bear with me here... I think a driver id a *.dll file, and that being the case, PST installed 35 drivers for me.

P2kman will aloow you to load game to your fone but it's not easy to deal with , don't know how to or careless will mess up for fone.
I have NO intention of using p2kman! I know my limitations.

Delete your modem, use task manager to comletedly shut of MPT. Reboot. Now open MPT with fone plug in wizard will try to install your fone modem don't let it, instead choose the advance option to manualy installing it . Use "specefic location " then piont it to your MPT folder. Sample C:\program\mpt\inf. This should work.
** If it is stay at initializing more then 20 second hit cancle then a generic skin fone will popup, click on the menu icon of it then you'll see a dropdown choose F6 (general setting)-->customized-->exchange modem--> yes and yes again then ckeck the box that would allow you to choose the modem from list---> motorola GSM---> right colum scrow down till you see V551 click on it now it's will work it have to work it better work
Well I've been fighting this dang thing for days. I followed your instructions. I uninstalled the modem using device manager; used taskmanager to shut down Mobile Phone Tools; unplugged the phone from the pc; rebooted.
Restarted Phone tools and selected "usb" for my connection; plugged the phone into the pc and the new hardware wizard launched; I hit the "back" button and then chose the install from a list or specific location advanced option;I selected the option "search for the best driver from these locations" then checked the box to include this location in the search C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools\Inf and hit next. The wizard then went and did the backup of files in case of a system restore. The only file I saw it say was usbser.sys was being copied to c:\windows\system32\drivers. the other option is "don't search, I will choose the driver to install" this brings up a list of about 5 drivers (Motorola USB Modem version 2.0.0.1/2.0.0.3/2.0.0.6 with 2.0.0.6 being dated 1/11/2005) Should I have picked the latest driver instead of it searching??? Also is the usbser.sys the proper file that should be getting transferred??
Sorry so long but getting really really frustrated
