I have seen lots of complaints about the V551 battery life. I am assuming that everyone is using the battery charger that comes with the phone which is a quick charge unit.

The quick charger used for the V551 is the same one being used for the V120E that I currently have. I also have a standard charger which also works on both the V120E and the V551 that I suspect is doing more of a conditioning charge (if you will) on the battery because when I charge with the standard charger, the battery lasts longer. Below is a link where you could find this charger.

http://www.batterysupplier.com/get_item_spn4992.htm

I let a friend borrow this for use on his V551 and originally his battery would be exhausted after 1-1.5 days whereas with the new charger it stayed full for 3 days. I would be interested to find out if when using this charger, the battery life for the V551 is extended or at least better.

I am looking at switching to the V551 on Cingular sometime in February and would appreciate the feedback on this issue as it seems to be the only one that would concern me of all that I have read.

If that is the case then I suspect that the phone set the timer on the first charge.

So when you charge it with the quick charge, it charge with low current for x amount of time. This, may undercharge the battery.
When you switched to the mid range charger, you are still charging it with the same x amount of time but with more current. That may overcharge your battery!

Just my 2 pennies!

P.S. my v505 charger info:
SPN5037B
model: 5012
input: 100-240v ~ 50/60hz, 0.1A
output: 5.9v - 375ma

what is the nextel charge info?

So the the charger appears to be identical in terms of output so I don't suspect it is overcharging the phone. Perhaps there is some other aspect of the charger that is not obvious that improves the battery life over the standard charger provided.

The way I see it, quick is nice but I would rather have longer battery life than a quick recharge.

I work for Cingular, and the Motorola representative at a product expo this month told us that there is a software issue with the Motorola 551 that is creating the battery life issue. He instructed us to call motorola to make arrangements to have our phones replaced. I had the V600 before my 551, and it lasted 2-3 days between charges, but the 551 doesn't last me 24 hours, and I never use a rapid charger.

This is going on where I work. They are switching out our cell phones to V551's and 4 of us recently got them at the same time. 2 people get a day or less from their battery and 2 of us are getting 3-4 days from ours. We have compared batteries (they are the same except for serial numbers) and phone configurations, but can not find any real difference between them.

One guy who was only getting a day from his went to the Cingular store and they gave him a new battery, this improved the time between charges, but only to a day and a half.

There's no 'splaining it! icon_blink.gif

Yup v551's battery life is really bad comparing to my previous v60. But I don't really mind - I put it to charge whenever I'm home [the home charger really helps] and I got one in the car [same as my old v60]. So really battery life is really the only bad thing about this phone.

A bit of an update. I was comparing phones this morning with one of the guys who is only getting a day per charge. He notices that without opening his phone, he sometimes sees light coming from the keypad. Mine never seems to do this.

Looking closer at the little switch that shuts off the display (the small hole above and to the right of the keypad), his switch is mounted fractionally lower than mine. We are thinking that perhaps bumping the phone is enough to toggle his switch, but not mine.

This would explain the differences seen in battery life per charge.

this is not a reply but more of an inquiry,
I'm thinking about getting the v551 myself, I heard battery life sucks how was your experience with it?

I am now using Treo600 (GSM) and having problem with cingular wireless mode dropping call and sound interference.
I am planning to use bluetooth headset and will try to sync it with my Mac running OS10.3.8.
they said that iSync will not work and i will probably have to use USB data cable to transfer.

Any thoughts on this before I plunged in for it? any help would be appreciated.. I've lost over $400 with the Treo600 that only last me 14 months.
thanks icon_huh.gif

I also have bought V551 from Canda. and i m using it in Pakistan. there is a voltage difference in Pakistan and Canada. here we have 220V.
My Charger takes about 5 hours to charge the battery completely. but the battery lasts for 1 day only. I dont know whats the problem. Any suggestions on that please?
